CA Odomoter went out

A couple months ago my odometer went out. The back light still lights up, but the miles aren't being displayed. I took it to my local dealer, but they said the only thing they would be able to do is fix it, which would reset the miles to 0. Can the odometer be fixed and the original miles show up? Or would I have to source another cluster from another car that has around the same mileage?

Mine did that few weeks ago, turned out to be bad a ground in the battery relocation done by the previous owner, fix that and the mileage came right back, not sure if you are in the same situation tho.

when mine did that was because it was a bit of rust on the pin connector to the ECU.

This is a very common problem on FD's. You can fix the one you have and reset the miles or buy another one and do the same thing.

I took mine to an instrument cluster specialist local to me. They specialize in FD clusters as well, when I was there they had 4 that FD owners were waiting to get fixed. Cost me about $160, but still works 2 years later with the correct mileage. PM me if you want their website so the forum ****'s dont delete my post.

...or you can look under the FAQ and fix it yourself ( keeping your odo mileage) for around $10 and the cost of a soldering iron if you don't have one.

If you feel comfortable taking apart your cluster (it's really not that hard) you can fix it for for a few bucks if you know how to solder. You will have to take the entire cluster apart and get to the odometer board, after that you need to look for all the bad capacitors on the board (they will be leaking and or have black or brown gunk around them; or will be corroded) and unsolder them (mark EVERYTHING so you know where to put the new capacitors back) and take the old ones to an electronics parts store, i.e. Radioshack, and ask them to find you replacements. Re-install them and it should work then on.
