Odd fuel pump issues, Need Advice

I'm typing this for my roomate because I kinda know what is happening.

We just finished hooking everything up after his rebuild, we went to turn the key to prime the fuel line. Not a sound at all, we tried and tried again still nothing. I took out the manual and started reading it didnt get me verry far. I then put a jumper in the diagnostic port from the ground to the f/p (fuel pump) Voila it's now pumping, but when I remove the jumper it does nothing.

Where might our problem lie? Could it be something as simple as not having something pluged in fully? Is it safe to start and idle possibly drive with the jumper in place?

Thanks!

does the CEl come on? check the 15a engine fuse and the 20a fuel pump fuse. then when you turn the key to the on pos make sure the circuit opening and egi relays close. are you sure you have no fuel press in key on?

The pump will not run untill you start cranking. You did the right thing byb jumping the f/p to ground and priming the system . Take the jumper out and start that sucker up!

i was having the same problem with my car...i took the pump out and hooked it straight to the battery because it was making no noise at all when i turned the key on...the car would try and start, but it wouldnt crank all the way over....after like 3 days of trying to figure out when the hell was wrong, i was messing with the EGR relay...and the bitch started right up....must have been a bad connection or somtehing....cause before that i took that relay out, checked it with a meter, checked ALL my fuses...everything.....i dunno man....just make sure all of your fuses and relays are pushed all the way in and have a good connection

I had the EXACT same problem. I replaced the unit with a walbro and it worked just fine. I'd say replace it with an upgrade and your problems will go away

If you jump the ground and the F/P in the diagnostic port and you have fuel pressure, then the circuit opening relay and fuel pump are working. So when you try to crank the motor you have no fuel pressure? You understand the pump will not run with the key on and the motor not running. ( except for 2 seconds so I'm told ) One thing I'm not sure of is the state of the fuel pump relay when jumping at the diagnostic port. If it is opened, the fuel pump resistor my be bad.
