What are your thoughts on running a low or mid grade fuel with octane boost instead of premium? Any problems with it?

 

I love doing this.

 

tried it bud. The post by batman was somewhat helpful, but not to what I want. I'm wondering the safety of running a typical octane boost bought in autozone with regular or midgrade fuel, how it affects the octane level, things of that nature.

 

octane boosters that you purchase at your locar autoparts stores are complete junk!!
They do not raise your octane very much, so running low grade gas and octane booster is pointless, not to mention more expensive.

If you want to raise your octane level, add some Toluene in with your fuel. It has an octane rating of 114. Good ****, and you can get it at your local paint store. OH, and its the main ingredient in most octane boosters, but it is much cheaper (get that).

 

depending on how much fuel you have in your gas tank, octane booster will only raise your octane rating a very small amount. 2 octane numbers at the aboslute most.

 

Those things are a POS! I put some in my tank and it destroyed my injectors. Thank god my engine didn't pop.

It won't work. Seeing as how there is only a 10-20 cent difference per gallon between low/mid and premium, you are trying to save a whopping $2-4/tank. Now how much do those octane "boosters" cost?

So, pretty much you are breaking even to run lower octane and blow your engine. I suggest a career in accounting is not for you...

Batmans post had "autozone ect." octane booster info in the 11th post of the thread. There were ratings for Toulene, Xylene and other effective boosters in the same post as well.

And who needs octane boost unless you're going with some carzy amount of boost anyway? In that case you'd run a higher octane racing fuel, right?

 

You can't afford this car if you can't afford an extra $5 per fill up. Sell it and move on.

 

if you want some high octane fuel, run airplane fuel. the octane rating is 100 or 102, somthing close to there. only way to get it is if you know someone with a pilot license. its real purdy too, it has a blueish color to it
