Good to hear man, Untill we know some more info on the engine and stuff we cant really recommend anything, cause we ont know what things have been replaced.

You should (NEEED) to gett the AST replaced. Get a Mid pipe, or high flow cat if emissions permit. Catback, and a PFC. and when you have enough money replace the Intercooler with a Nice SMIC or FMIC, and get a boost controller.

oh yea...

O YEA!

you should get a downpipe before a mid pipe and since you live in FL emissions shouldnt be a problem. If you do decide to get a full exhaust from DP back, you need to watch your boost levels. The wastegate will most likely need to be ported. Take your time to get to know the car and congrats

The heat created by the Cat is one of the main reasons that FD's fail. So just do them at the same time while your under there

The heat from the DP is a problem. The heat from the Cat isnt really too bad for the engine bay. It would be best to replace other things before you hit the Midpipe.

Here's some advice:

More people will read your posts if you start using capitalization and punctuation.

Congrats on the new car.

Only reason the DP heats up so much is because of the restriction of flow created by the Cat.

Not entirely true. the reason the stock DP heats up so much is because of the pre-cat which usually clogs much faster than the main cat.

Both the stock dp and main cat add restriction and heat. The stock dp is also known for clogging, and the location puts a lot more heat into the engine bay.

The stock cat does not add much heat to the engine bay. IMO, removing it causes more reliability problems due to the owner not handling the boost control complications correctly. (This obviously does not apply to every owner, but on the whole it does)

To the OP, read the faq. AST is in there. You've wanted an FD for 6 years and obviously you have no knowledge of them. You have a lot of learning to do, fast.

Yep, this is VERY important; you're going to have to spend a LOT of time on the forums to catch up. When I bought my FD 2 years ago (this month ), I didn't even know how a rotary worked. The amount of information on this forum is nearly limitless, you're knowledge is pretty congruent with how much time you spend on here, actually reading information. Stay away from the lounge

Worst advice EVER.

A free flow MP should be the LAST thing on this guy's list.

To the OP, find yourself a ROTARY SPECIFIC specialist near you and have them thoroughly go over the vehicle. A trained eye giving your new car a look over will save you a lot of trouble, answer many questions, and save you from un-necessary spending.

Before you try to add power, ensure that you car is reliable. MAKE SURE you keep extra money in the bank AT ALL TIMES in case some work needs to be done to your car. If you do decide to modify the car past where it is now than I would suggest only doing one thing at a time, this will make it MUCH easier to trouble shoot if something goes wrong, while letting you adapt to the increases in power and performance.

The most important thing you can do for your vehicle is to educate yourself. Read the FAQ's, browse the forum (stay out of the lounge because we will ******* destroy you there) and become *very* familiar with the "Search" function. This site has been around for a long time and has probably had more knowledge slip through the cracks than you or I will ever be able to gather. 99% chance that if you have a question, somebody else has had that question before, and it's already been asked. Alot. Search EVERYTHING and find what you are looking for, or at least enough so that you know enough to formulate an educated query when you do need additional explanations.

All that aside...

Welcome to the RX-7 Club, grats on your purchase

im not gonna lie it's kind of unsettling that you don't know what the AST deal is after you've already purchased one of these. But congrats, im in the market for my first as well. I agree with all above, don't touch it until you spend like a week straight on here just reading ****. Take it to your guy, have him look at it, and then REALLY talk to him about anything and everything you can, im sure he's knowledgable. Also -- there's a good sticky on the top of the 3rd gen page that says something about "newbies begin here" or something -- GO THERE. it has links to other sights that just straight pour information on you. gooooood reads. do it, do it.

I wouldn't worry about modding it yet, reliability is key first, although im sure you're average intake/exhaust won't hurt too much if you're eager. good luck with it and enjoy!! when does it get delivered??

This is going to sound odd, but having Mazda install the engine isn't actually a good thing. Whatever you do, if you have a problem and feel like taking it to the dealer, don't. There are little to no rotary trained mechanics left in Mazda's service. If you feel that you're in over your head on something and just want to take it to a shop to let them deal with it, be sure to spend the time looking for a good rotary only shop. "Import Specialists" won't cut it, it has to be rotary only, like Gotham Racing or Pettit Racing.

NEVER EVER EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO A DEALER. Unless it's one of the rare dealerships that are known by the rx7club. Go to the regional formum on here and look for shops in your area.

Your first order of business is to read those FAQ and to read through the general upgrades postings.

Pictures of the engine bay and so forth will result in us telling you specifically what has been done/needs to be done to the car.

Like stated earlier there are no longer any rotary specialists at dealerships. They won't know what to do with your car.

I've never heard of Japtrix but if it is just an import-specific shop you might reconsider and take it to a ROTARY SPECIFIC shop.

For someone who has wanted one of these since 16 has sure had plenty of time to read about these cars. Not sure what kind of cars you've driven or what you think your driving skills may be, but the first thing I'd put in the car is a responsible driver as these cars aren't very forgiving to mistakes (driving skills or poor mechanical ability) Glad you got your dream car (or at least the one you've wanted for a while) and hope you get to spend sometime with it.
