O-ring fix question

Im abbout to perform the block weld procedure to seal up my
O-ring, until the end of the month when I get my new engine.
Ive seen people perform the steps with the thermostat in and some people take them off. Will leaving it in work properly.

It will take longer to reach operating temperature with the thermostat out but it will be much easier to clean all the soap (or degreaser) out. Put the thermostat back in before you add the block weld.
