now where is the oil coming from!!!!!

okay...i noticed that i had the motor mount and oil pan bolt battle that was causing my oil leak. well i took the oil pan bolt out and the motor mount took care of sealing that. no more oil from there. keep in mind that this is a mazda reman with only 10K miles. im getting frustrated. it looks to be coming from either the OMP area or behind the ecentric shaft area/main pulley. how can a new motor be leaking oil like this? is this what i really get from going from dino oil to synthetic. it was cool before this but now its annoying as hell. i have been through 12 bottles of mobil 1 thinking i found the problem only to have to pour it back out. what are all the gaskets that are associated with the OMP that may be the culprit. what are all the gaskets/seals that are associated with the min drive pulley section that could be the culprit? im just too damn tired right now. please anyone and everyone. would be nice to get the lightweight pulleys on there, but seems that this whole oil leak is costing me a small fortune.

Well, you can pull off the opm and clean the omp and front cover (where the omp bolts up) REALLY good them use a bunch of grey silicone and that should fix any leak coming from there. It might also be coming from the 2 omp lines where they attach at the omp. There are 2 small crush rings per line. You could replace them.

OR just to try you could tighten all the omp bolt a little and the lines as well.

NOTE* Be VERY carefull with those omp lines, they are fragile and can break easy. They are also a HUGE pita to replace.

Of course also look at your turbo's oil drain as the front one is down there by the omp.

Hope it helps some,
STEPHEN

BTW - What is the oil pan bolt motor mount bolt battle your talking about??? Does the pan seal better if you remove a bolt or something??? I'm lost on that one

That sucks Suprfast. Like Stephen said, there are copper washers for each OM line, but there is also a funky copper plate/washer that goes between the OMP and the block. Does it look like it is leaking there? I always replace all of these gaskets when doing a swap just to avoid this type of thing, but not all do. The primary (front) turbo oil supply is also up there too (like Stephen said). That is located right on top of the turbo under the y-pipe. It also has two copper washers and it would run oil down to that area if it were leaking.

At this point, I would suggest buying some Castrol Superclean from the local autoparts store. Spray it all over the entire area that is covered with oil (including the subframe and motor mount) and hose it off to remove existing oil residue/gunk. Don't get it on your paint! Then drive the car for a day or so and then get back in there to see exactly where the oil is coming from. We know your oil is pretty clean by now, so it might be hard to see, but do the best you can. It will be importand that things in that area are as clean as possible in order to pinpoint the source of oil.

Stephen,

The bolt he is taking about is an "extra" bolt that the remans have in the oil pan that prevents the engine mount from seating properly. (I posted some details about this here a couple days ago, but that post has been lost). Basically, it is put in during motor assembly to seal the pan, but you have to remove it when installing the pass. side motor mount. I just fill the hole with permatex and the motor mount has a machined feature that covers the hole flush. If the bolt is left in, the motor mount will not seat firmly against the motor and it will usually leak oil. FYI.

Later,

Jeff

you guys are awsome. i think this is the cheapest and easiest route. im hoping its not coming form the front of the eccentric shaft. this has been a month long battle as i have little time and patience after work. i will get all new copper gaskets and O ring for the OMP. its not the turbo pipe since it was leaking there too at starters and that was fixed last week. one thing leading to another.

okay, i just emliminated the eccentric shaft from leaking. im not looking at the side of the OMP where it has a black casing and two phillips heads. there seems to be a metal gasket there and oil keeps appearing. also above that i see some oil(i think, clean oil is hard to see). on the back side of the housing that the lower radiator hose connects to. where does this housing go. i still have my smog pump and its hard to see behind/below it. does this housing have anything to do with oil, at all. does it seperate oil and water? please help me. im running out of options. only seems to leak nicely while under a quick boost run. wont leak at idle or after a few nice revs. my quick boost run was less than an 1/8 mile. up and down the street and quick on jacking it back up. saw a few new spots on the ground, but cant find the start.

new discovery. im really feeling good about this one. the two lines that connect to the OMP and have a black braided look to it are always wet. have drops of oil on them. i think that i kept passing them up because there is also an electrical connector sitting right next to it with the same black braided coating. where do these lines head to, going away from the OMP?
