Nos?

Hey everyone,
I'm going to be purchasing a JDM 1993 RX7 this summer and i really want to have some fun with it... sooo... I was just wondering what modifications would have to be done to the car so it could support nitrous. This is actually a two-part question, what nos kit would be the best for this car as well?

I think you should read the FAQS about owning a rx7 before even thinking about performance mods, let alone NOS. You don't know what these things can do! Please read the faqs!

I know the dangers involved with after mods and nitrous but to me, the pros outweigh the danger. With this in hand, i am having everything professionally installed, so it brings down the chance of anything happening to not just myself, but the car. Since this in an RX7 club, i was hoping you guys would have some advice or perhaps some direction to find the best system for the car.

You don't know anything about me, i have done alot of research into nitrous and its side effects. I am only here to gain your guys advice on what you might think is the best plan.

but, do you know much about rotaries???? read the faq. these respond very differently to nitrous oxide than piston engines. read the faq. So you should do more research. read the faq.

I think he meant that you must not have read about how nitrous blows up 3rd gen RX-7s. Everytime. Heh, j/k, but they're pretty damn fickle cars.

Welcome to the club, enjoy your FD, and do lotsa reading in the 3rd gen archive. If I were you (just buying an FD), I'd be thinking about a 60K mile tune-up and an upgraded Y-pipe & AST 1st.

I think the raw number of people directly injecting nitrous speaks volumes.

Whatever you do set it up in a manner where you're running wet and do not rely on tuning or some other variable to ensure you're running rich enough. Make sure your cooling and reliability mods are in tip-top shape.

And have cash ready for a new engine. It's smart in general but when trying such aggressive power modding you'll really need it.

As far as these engines goes, NOS isnt the best idea. BUT since I have Nos on all my other cars I had 2 other kits and I had to install one on my FD(2 10LBs bottles running as one unit with secondary safety switches and heat blankets) although I NEVER used it only through the purge kit, lol for looks really but I would not recommend using this system without some fuel, ignition, and computer upgrades. And use a WET kit and dont exceed more than a 75hp shot....

Yeah i read that you shouldn't exceed more then a 75hp shot because the rotary engines do not handle nos so well... something to do with the seals?
i have it bookmarked, so i'll read up on it later but thanks alot for the information guys.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you prefer more, your rx7 or the 300zx.
What would be better for my scenario (nos).

I LOVE my FD and it cant come close to any other of my cars, I just fell in love with the design and of course its unique Rotary Engine, fast, beautiful and handles GREAT.....

I've been working with NOS (thats the brand I have) for the past 8years so if you have questions regarding this just pm me.

If it's not professionally driven then what's the point. My $.02 is you should get the car first learn to drive it with the factory level boost and if you don't wreck the car or kill your self (were guessing it will run correctly) in the first month, I'm sure you will at least be spending your time getting everything that needs to be corrected done before you move on to the performance level.

you might just find out how weak the seals really are..

best advice i heard was to prepare for another rebuild... or maybe it was the advice about not doing it at all?

I personally do not care for nitrous at all. But I also personally think the best paint job is one that is not sprayed, but swiped on during a wheel to wheel event, and I like my fender flares riveted on. I don't like it for the simple fact that you're depending on something other than just gas. But I ended up not driving an FD because of the kind of s**t I put my cars through. I want to go really really fast through all sorts of turns and have nothing slow me down for hours. When I decided I wanted to get my masters owning an FD was deemed impossible for the time being. Consider the whole world of feasibility before purchasing an FD. They're a beautiful thing, don't waist another perfectly fine FD. These cars are for two types of people that are occasionally the same. the first type is the bonafied mechanic. the second type is the person with disposable income, I mean, Sick, Disturbing levels of disposable income. Once you are making the money you already have it promised to your mortgage, your wife's mini-cooper because you won't let her own something you wouldn't at least slightly enjoy working on or driving, the gtapex you ran into a wall just like your last race car, or your former daily driver miata that since the last wreck is on the fast track to race car status for the next year. God I missed driving a car with no interior and a roll cage every day. The numbers I built for myself on owning a car like this is it's a 40,000$ initial investment. because you have to replace and fix just about everything if you want to drive it hard. I mean NASA/SCCA hard. And then you gotta replace it all over again when you learn about how much these things blow up because you didn't do everything right. But you keep pushing all your money into it because it is everything these punks hype it up to be. I still consider pulling a sacrilige move and dropping in an LS-1 to one of these just because I love the way it handles and I know I can't afford to maintain the rotary engine in the state I demand. I rambled a lot and made no sense. Hopefully one of the veterans around here can clean up the mess I just made here. I think I had a few good points in there somewhere. Whatever, it's 1:30am.

iksney on the NO2 buddy....listen to what these guys are telling you...they have more experience with rotaries then you do...

1. The 13B does not like NO2...seals blow very easily under normal hard driving conditions...now multiply that by 100 when you add some juice

2. See if you can handle the car after doing some performance upgrades....FMIC, full exhaust, upping boost, hell swap for a single turbo

3. Only do the above things after performing the reliability mods you can find by pressing the search button up top
