Noooooooo!!!.... not the coolant smell!

Bear w/ me... please I need all the input I can get!

Alright... let me give a little background. About a week ago my FD was hard to start. It started but was really rough like it's wasn't firing correctly. Then after about 10 seconds it just reved up to the warmup point and was perfectly fine.
It never really happened again till a few days ago my add coolant buzzer came on. I checked the system immidatly (even tho my after market w/temp said I was at 100). Sho nuff... there was plenty of coolant. I started it again and the light/buzzer didn't come on.
Then the other day she started fine... I took the GF to the airport and when I got back to the car it wouldn't start. I didn't think much of it because she had left the door open all night and the dome lights we're on. I played w/ it for about 10-15 min and next thing I know I turned it over and it started right up like nothing was ever wrong.
It's been running perfectly fine for the past few days (read: 3 or 4) and then this morning I started it and it did the rough start thing again.... so I wated a few seconds and it reved up till normal. Then the smell came! A definate coolant smell! Then the add coolant light/buzzer (damn that things anoying... good thing lol) came on. I turned off the car right away and poped the hood. I was low on coolant. QUITE low. I added some distiled water and turned her back on.... she seems to be running fine.

Besides a couple of oil leaks she is running just as strong as ever. She is about a quart or so low on oil (just checked that).

Could one of my O-rings be going? Dumping some water in my engine making it hard to start? Or is just because the AZ heat is comming and she's going to eat some coolant?

I'm about to pull the enigne here in the next week or so so I can fix the oil leaks, 5th gear syncro, and degrease the car. Should I just get the damn thing rebuilt (wasn't really READY for that stage yet but....)? Will a compression test tell me if one of the o-rings are going?

tia,
Chris

Get a shop to pulls the spark plugs and pressure test the coolant system while the motor is cold.

If the motor warms up... the housings will expand just enough to close off small leaks.
