I have searched but maybe im not searching for the right thing. I have a 300zx and im not new to cars(my stepdad builds drag cars for a living) but im new to the rotary engiine. So heres my question, is it possible to keep the A/C when adding a fmic. I read somwhere that you have to relocate the a/c plumbing is this true or do you have to do away with the A/C when adding a fmic.

 

No, you can keep the a/c with the FMIC. You just have to move alot of stuff

 

oh ic, is it really worth it to move all that stuff around and you guys that dont have a/c how do u manage in the summer

 

Just drive really fast with the windows down.

 

trust us, once you own an FD and rinse as much fun out of it as you can you will find room and the last thing you'll think about is AC

 

haha i cant wait to get my fd im looking at 2 or 3 months so i can finish paying off my series 2 land rover and sell it and keep my 300zx as a dd. I have fallen in love ever since i rode in 350hp FD .

 

In all seriousness though, you can get larger SMIC's or V-Mount IC's which can produce the same amount of power as an FMIC without giving you A/C problems.

 

yes but i have always loved the looks of a fmic...it may sound cheesy but thats my personal preference....lol but from what i have read the summers dont really like the fm due to the heat. With a V-Mount could you use sheet metal to feed the ic better at the track. I have a friend with a s13 turboed doing this. the sheet metal is angled from the bumper to ic to increase airflow. I know it sounds crazy but im not really gonna do that i was just wondering if that would help.

 

The best thing to do when using an FMIC is to add some ducting below the IC to bring air straight to the radiator. The goal is to get air straight to the radiator, not necessarily more air to the radiator through the FMIC.

 

what kind of ducting, is there somewhere you can buy it. I have the plastic ducting from my 300zx intake. I dont know if that would work or not but a friend and i used some ducting about like that on his camaro. Maybe were thinking of 2 different things.

Definitely. If you look at how you would get air "around" an FMIC to the radiator, then you'll see how you might make some ducting. There are people who run without any custom ducting and have no problems. For everyday street driving, it might not ever make a difference.
