Unhappy No Oil no motor....it's official

This was the original thread were I lost oil after installing the crooked willow dual oil coolers...

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ghlight=7racer

They found that the AN fitting to the stainless line failed. It was like I stated in the other thread where the fitting wasn't sealed and seated correctly when installed and basically "popped" off.

The mechanics fixed it. Put oil back in the car and vrrrooom! It STARTS!

However, no compression on the rear...They stated that it seems like the apex seala are fine but the rear seal? most likely failed resulting in no compression on the rear...

did I make any sense?

Anyways, the engine will get pulled and taken a closer look as well as the turbos...

I seen two engine go without oil and usually the front rotor gets thrashed first. I think the oil pressure is lower on the front rotor.

Are you talking about the rear engine main seal? If it is, it can be replaced by dropping the tranny, right?

Pour a good amount of oil in the rear rotor housing spin it over a couple times (no spark) and let it sit for about a week.

I have seen them come lose...worth a try.

apnea....if you ruin that seal would you get no compression in the rear?

I'm still a big novice when it comes to the engine...

I figured that most likely the engine still needs pulled to see what exactly has been damaged don't you think???

No...

Your seals may have seized in the apex seal slots..PUT OIL IN THE BACK ROTOR. Small chance they may come loose. I have seen it happen.

I used MMO to unstick a rotor on a first gen, back in the day. Wrote an article about it in the then DFW RX-7 club monthly newsletter.

Ok, I am not understanding...Can someone break it down and explain it to me like I am a 5 year old?

How does the rear rotor stick and the front one doesn't? what are the seals sticking to, isn't the rotor housing smooth inside? Excuse my ignorance. help a brotha out

The rotors get so hot from the added friction and the side seals stick in the groove. They turn blue from the heat. If it was run without oil, the rotor is bad and the side housings. The oil comes from the rear of the engine forward.

My car just was not started for 2 months and when I went to crank, it would not crank. We determined by process of elimination that the engine was frozen up. By putting MMO in the spark plug holes and rocking the car in gear it broke loose. Started and ran fine. I sold the car two years later but never had another similar problem. The car was a 1981 GSL-SE. Just started the car every week after that.

Of course after I typed all this I'm not sure that this is really relevant to the thread other than I figured that the rotor was stuck. I tried dowel pins and a hammer to move the rotor and was never able to budge it. Never tore it down so I'll never know for sure what froze up.
