no hold button

the guy i bought the car from last year replaced the stock shifter with a nice chrome peice. only problem is no more hold function. that sucks. i took apart the center part to see if any wires were left there none (of course). so my question is does anyone know which wires come from the auto ecu to the shifter for the hold function? i would like to keep my chrome shifter now. so i was thinking of splicing into the wire and connecting it to my steering wheel. please some help

i think it holds the slushbox in a gear so you can rev it out then make it shift?

From my limited knowledge, the hold button serves two functions....
1) During rain or snow driving, if hold is engaged and the tranny is left in D position, the car will start off in second gear to prevent boosting in low and spinning( for safety.)
2) With hold engaged in 1st or low, the car will not shift automatically. It will stay in first ,second and third until you hit rev limiter. This allows a more manual shifting pattern for drag racing etc. Some use shifting in conjunction with hold button for faster and more effecient shifts.....
Also, it's my bet that if the previous shifter was removed, then the 2 wires (very small in size, but I cant remember the colors) that ran through the shifter were simply cut and place somewhere in the console out of the way?

There's a white (in my 93) electrical module that houses the shifter indicator light/illumination AND the Hold button wires together. It's located to the right of the shifter assembly underneath the console panel.

When you locate the module, check to see if two small slots are visible, if so, that's where the Hold button wires should connect to.
