next problem (fan related)

Well car is boosting fine now but the next problem came up.....It seems that the fan/s are not kicking on unless I hit the a/c button. When I hit the a/c both fans kick on, but without that the fan/s are not coming on. Anything I should start looking at, relays, if so which ones? This is something that just came up they where working fine before.

Thanks in advance for some help. I tried searching but just found alot of threads about the fans staying on and the fan mod.

They where getting up to 100celcius as per my greddy gauge, usually there inbetween, 85-90 c. But they wheren't cooling down like usually even while driving so when i got home i popped the hood and they would only spin with the a/c on, and that's at 100 c or so.

What ECU? Have you installed a miata or 2nd gen thermoswitch?

If it's stock and you still have the stock thermoswitch, the fans don't turn on until ~226F IIRC. Try turning your parking lights on and see if they come on at a lower temp.

Stock ecu and thermo, maybe it's just me or the hot weather, seems like they used to cool down pretty quick once I started moving. With park lights on car still doesn't kick fan and it's a 93, maybe i have a different year ecu or something?

Check to make sure your thermoswitch sensor wire isn't disconnected, and that the connector/spade are clean.

Well today after gym I got home and instead of turning the car off I let it sit until the fans came on, 110 C and they both came on cooled it off a few degrees then shut back off. Im not really into letting the car get that hot, so I guess ill try either 2nd gen thermo or that hks fan controller, any suggestions on which would be the better of the two??

It sounds like one of your fan relays is not working for some reason. The sequence of the fan relays (four of them) determines the speed that your fans run at. Check your wiring loom and relays for frayed/worn wires.

check your harness at the relays on the passenger side. My connector's burned out right there at the relays.

Ok, where are the four different relays? Is it the black ones on the passenger side next to the intake? Is there a easy way to test them besides just looking at the wiring for a problem.....I hate electrical stuff.

Yes, there are four relays mounted together on a bracket on the passenger side just in front of the shock tower.

Get yourself a FSM (or download and look through the pages at the iluvmyrx7 site) and a continuity tester.
