i have been in love w/ 3rd gen rx7s since i knew anything about cars. that was way before the movie fast and furious came out, not to say that dom's rx-7 wasnt awsome. i have been scraping, sweating, and saving every penny i can to put towards an rx-7 for about 3 years. i have managed to save up about 19 grand. i think its time for that rx .

however recently after looking at several of them i have been told numerously how unreliable they r. i have also heard that they burn oil really bad and sometimes cant pass inspection. what can be done to make it reliable(if theres any truth). i know a lil about the car but i was nieve to any problems involving them. in the future when i go to look for an rx7 what should i look out for? any websites that would help out?

i was told that dropping in a custom 3 rotor system and upgrading to a large single turbo would improve reliability. whats everyone's opinion on this idea? and about how much would the motor and final cost be?

i know a lot of questions but please help out a fellow rotary lover.

i am new too...hi

from what i understand 3 rotors are expensive (check ebay...perfect example on there...beautiful car though) and single turbos are too (more than $19k...prepare to finance)

i just purchased a beautiful FD for $14k....if i had $5k i could go single turbo and do all of the reliability mods

just to give you some support- i'd say search for a good car $14k or so and use the other $5k to fix it up

i got new paint, tires, engine, brakes, wheels on mine- only thing i overlooked, the suspension sucks bad

3rotor conversion=40k+the car (keep saving dude)

10-15k can get you a pretty good car and the extra 4k should buy you either a new single turbo and/or a new engine.

good luck dude

silly noobie

oh yeah, just so you don't have to waste your time looking, a 3 rotor is roughly a minimum of $30k installed. there is a lot more work than just throwing it in there.

my advice is read, read, and when you are done reading, read some more. trust me, it will make your life easier in the long run.

Yeah it might, depends on what part of a stock rx7 you consider unreliable. It will get rid of the pain in the *** stock sequential twin turbos and the 30+feet of vacum lines but it will still be a rotary and die easily with a little detonation. BTW, you can as stated go single turbo on the stock motor.

BTW, 3 rotor + single turbo = faster car then you'd dare to dream of, but also probably 40K once you factor in the single turbo. Going rate a year or two ago from www.pettitracing.com was around 37k installed plus you supply the car but that's with the 3 rotor still using the stock sequential twin turbos it comes with. Adding a single turbo, means you need bigger everything including a bigger wallet..
