newbie ? about CRV ABV

I have two diagrams, one shows the CRV as Blow Off Valve and the other diagram shows the ABV as the BOV. Are they both BOV's? What is the diff in their function?

They both are pretty much the same thing but have different functions. The CRV (compressor relief valve) is pretty much the factory blowoff valve. The ABV (air bypass valve) is part of the sequential system.

When the second turbo is prespooling in closed loop, the ABV opens to allow the pressure to vent so the pressure it's making in prespool has somewhere to go.

ABV = stock BOV

I think you got mixed up dale. The Black valve that says ABV on it that is closest to the airbox is the "stock BOV" if you will.

Indeed, they were switched.

I often go back to the diagram (http://www.davidgeesaman.com/rx7/93v...lor.edited.jpg) to keep from getting mixed up. :o)

That's the diagram I used to do my vac hoses, but then I had this one that lists the crv as the bov.

The one you uploaded is correct. It does not show the ABV at all but it does show the stock location as to where it hooks up to.

It lists the CRV as a blow off valve as it technically is... It has very similar operating parameters as the ABV. The difference is how it's used, not necessarily what it does.

I think I've got it. The ABV is the main BOV and the CRV is used for the second turbo as it pre spools.

Yes. The CRV basically is just there to keep the secondary turbo from overworking itself until it's online. Otherwise, it would basically be spooling into a wall which isn't a good thing.

Cool. I like to know how things work. The FSM tells you how to diagnose and repair, but it doesn't really explain things very well. Thanks.
