New to RX-7 NEED HELP!!!

Hey,

I am new to RX-7s, I'm coming from a 01 Eclipse GT with about $6,000 in aftermarket additions. I recently totalled it, and am now looking in to the RX-7. I know absolutely nothing about it, exept it generally has a 1.3l Rotary Engine. Which I'm kinda skeptical about because I had a 3.0l engine, of twice as big! What are the differerent models of this car, and which one is the best. Which one is turboed etc. Thanks

do a search, but in logic the motor is 2.6, 1.3x2 rotors. base, touring and r1/r2. they're all turbo. stock the car puts out more power than your old eclipse so dont worry about that. theres a lot to know about these cars, so if you do purchase one i hope you have a good job and extra cash because you just never know. i wouldnt buy one until you know exactly what you are getting yourself into, these are GREAT cars but sometimes every costly with replacing parts or upgrading.

please do a search

So you totalled your car and now you want to buy a car that is far faster?

BTW, us veteran members find threads like this to be incredibly annoying. Especially when you put NEED HELP in all caps in your thread title. Read the newbie sticky, all of your basic questions will be answered.

I don't agree with the 1.3x2 rotors agrument, but I do agree that it is effectively 2.6L. It ingests as much air as a 2.6L piston engine. There was a debate over this, read this thread:

Yeah, it's 1.3L, 2 rotors. 1.3L of rotary isn't quite the same as 1.3L of piston engine, so I don't recommend worrying about that too much.

About the models: for the 3rd generation, they all have identical engines which are twin turbo and 2 rotor (1.3L). 255HP/217ft-lb at the flywheel, stock. (Good for 225HP at the wheels). The different trim packages are mostly options which can be switched around if you buy the parts and do the work. 1993-1995 are all basically the same 'model' with minor refinements from year-to-year.

I suggest you keep reading the newbie links, or maybe read the reviews on www.epinions.com . I have a review there in much greater detail for the 1994 model.

Yes please search and read. Even go through the archives or some of the sites they list in the stickied threads. The rotary requires intense maintenance and care for the results, but you have to be willing to spend the time and money into keeping the car running. I would also suggest getting something to drive when its broke.
