New Rx-7
New Rx-7
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a rx-7, but i heard that they have alot of problems with the engine and turbo's. They say that people have to replace the engine and turbo's after 50,000 miles. I was just kinda wondering if that was the car, or the person that drives it?

There is a lot of myth behind the rotary and reliability. It is like a Farrari, if you take good care of it and replace/repair/maintain everything on time then it will last a long time. I'm at 60k with no issues at all, 100% origanal... I have a friend who is clocking 160k on his Rex, stock engine as well. Turbos, if really ragged on could go at 90k-120k, but even they can last a long time with proper cool-down, keeping from overspooling/spiking, etc...
There are rules to the car, if you are hard on it that is okay, but no matter whether you are a grandma or you are an Andretti always:
-change oil + filter every 2-3k
-change fuel filter every 15k
-assure air filter is in good shape and airbox is clean
-maintain belts and hoses, assure none are cracking or dry
-NEVER overheat, if you car is running above 105c I would say stop driving it until it has cooled
Theres more to it but I mean it isnt hard, most people should take care of their cars in this mannor anyways, they just dont. Most piston engines arent as sensitive to 'harsh' conditions as rotaries... thats why they still run after people dont change the oil after 10-12k, or the coolant after 4+ years, never change the air filter.... hit the rev limiter every chance they get, etc.
I'm sort of running on, so I'll let someone more knowledgable make more sense.

By the way did I mention I was 17 when I got my first FD and only 18 when it was wrecked and 18.5 when I got my Second.
