This is a common problem and I know there's at least one thread on it in the interior/exterior/audio. Search?!

Search for Malloy Mazda, probably the best price you will get for OEM parts.

Oh No!!!!

Well another sad day for another RX7. Maybe it was a sign for me not to get the car or maybe it was just sheer bad luck.

The story: I got the car 5 days ago. I have temporary insurance for 30 days, I am driving to my insurance agent to get the official paperwork so I can get my liscense plates. I stop at the light, about 3 cars behind the light, the turn arrow turns green the first two cars make it, then I go through (while the arrow is still green) a full size van not paying attention barrels down the street through the red light and t-bones me. The car was going about 40mph when he hit me, the rex slid about 20 feet, airbag deployed, passenger window exploded at me, and well from the pictures you can see the rest. I feel like it could have been prevented, I made a stop at car toys, if I wouldnt have done that, the van wouldnt have been there, if I would have turned in the side lot instead of the main I would be fine. Luckily I have ZERO injuries, everyone who witnessed was amazed I only had a seatbelt bruise. Everything still works, all speakers, the door locks, and the car RUNS!!!! engine is perfect, not a scratch. The other driver had no insurance, and I got a ticket because I had no proof of insurance except the temporary over the phone insurance, so I have a 4 point violation.

Exclamation

would this be even worth fixing, the engine is untouched, well basically the engine compartment, and the tranny is unscratched as well, the interior is good except the passenger side, i think the frame may be too badly damaged.

Yeah and maybe if I didn't get a coffee today this would have saved you... in reality.. don't beat yourself over it, accidents happen.. hence the word accidents. See what your insurance says they will cover.. Alot of that is cosmetic damage, but chances are you'll have a salvage title and very likely you may have a bent frame. It sucks but it looks like another one bit the dust.

If your insurance picks up the tab to fix it then cool.. take it to the best body shop in the world and get if fixed. If not then hope they take care of you and you can get another one.

Sucks man glad to see your a ok.. cause thats honestly all that really counts.. these are just toys.

My, my, my, that sucks. I hope your insurance will cover the entire cost of the car (instead of blue book value, which is often lower). You're going to have an interesting discussion with them - do not let them leave you with less money than you started.

40mph is a lot of energy to see only panel damage - I'll bet the frame is bent pretty badly. Turbojeff or another wreck guru can say better.

Dibs on the passenger side window switch!!

(and now the vultures will zoom in)

Sorry about the accident, good you're OK. Unfortunately, the insurance definitely isn't going to fix the car (what the heck is "over the phone temporary insurance"?); that's a definite "total" to them. There's some pretty extensive body damage, so it will cost you some $$$ to repair.

I guess from all my years riding bikes, it's one of the reasons why I'm always cautious and never blow through an intersection that's just turned green, as well as always checking out oncoming traffic...

Dibs on the driver's door compartment lid! Caaaww!....caaawww!....(is that the sound that vultures make? )

Well its not over the phone insurance, when you get a new car you let your insurance agent know over the phone, and for 30 days you get a full coverage grace period so I have full coverage on it. Well when the claims adjustor comes out, if its totalled I can part it out, the engine has 50k and same with turbos, bose system is unharmed and ill post some more. But how much do you think it would cost to fix it all IF it can be.

I think it's toast. I've been away from the business for a long time, but last I knew, most insurance companies total cars whenever damage exceeds a certain percentage of the car's value. Several years ago it used to be about 70% but may a bit different now. IMO, your car is going to be well beyond that.
I'm glad your alright but sorry about the car. Looked like it was a pretty clean.

Yeah, the car didnt have a single scratch or dent on it, and the interior wasnt scraped or stained, all it was missing was the passenger interior handle. It was a sad day for all rx7s

i wouldnt fix it. sounds like you want to do some major stuff to it. the chassis, even repaired probably wont handle it anymore.

it would suck to go through all the months of repair, just hear some dumb 'thump' everytime you gas it.

Here are some more pictures, my dad was looking at it today and took these, from what he says it looks like the frame may not have been damaged, and if it was it MAY be minor. The van hit about 3 inches above where the frame is so its all up to the claims adjustor. I know it is still probably totalled but if I can get it rebuilt I think it wont be as much as if the frame were severely damaged.

(ill need it after this haha)

front suspension on passenger side

some of the frame he tried to get

Look at the damage this car had and what it took to fix it.

http://community.webshots.com/album/132281433kiUBKO

The door sill is really a frame rail for the middle of the car.

The firewall on your car is seriously buckled by the ABS pump, it isn't a little buckled, it is A LOT buckled.

Your car is more wrecked than this car, the adjuster will likely total it based on a visual inspection.

Well I faced the music and my FD is gone. I can part out some of the smaller parts for people that need them, and bigger ones too once the insurance claims person tells me what I already know "Its totaled". So start picking away, just PM me or post what you want.

You do know you'll need to buy back the totalled shell to do anything with it, right? They don't just leave it with you to strip down.

Well I called my insurance and they will call the DA to drop my insurance ticket because they said it was ridiculous that they gave me a ticket. My dad actually is good friends with our insurance agent and he came by the house earlier and he said there have been worse cases and accidents and they have fixed them so there is a possibility they could pay, he said its 50/50 so I still say its totaled but he knows how to keep my hopes up.

Well well well Do I have some good news. I finally finished all my insurance crap. My FD Touring had everything stock, BOSE, and 57k miles. I bought it for 12,500. I got a call from my insurance and they are giving me $17.500!!!!!!! I am kind of iffy on getting another FD being as I am in colorado and snow is troublesome but moreso ice and it would be my only car, I think I may hold off for a while but I cant believe I made profit from insurance!!! All you guys have been such a great help.
