New ReSpeed Oil Pedestal.. Comparison pic with the old unit.

I just recieved the new updated Oil Pedestal.

Here are the comparison pics of the old and the new.

New ones are so much cleaner, smoother, and with better welds.

That new one looks like the very first model except that the oil line connector has been welded,

I hbought one of the very first ones and the center sector that the oil filter screws onto BLEW OFF with the filter, it is like 1/16in alum, and 1/4in alum is rated at appox 150psi 1/16 is way to small for this job

Hopfully it is not the remake of the frist model. I would rather have the one that is welded all over.

Yep, I agree
I sent mine back from the first group buy. The new one only apears to be welded on the outside pipe fitting. Center still looks pressed in. I feel better with the post welded.

The center section (where oil filter screws on) on this one is not inserted like the first one. It looks to be made from single block of aluminum and the oil line connector is inserted and welded. Much better design than the first set of these.

didnt they have a problem where they would start cracking too. Hopefully these fixed everything, did the group buy start on them yet. You can add a oil temp sensor here as opposed to the oem one.

i had one of these pedestals. Fresh rebuild, freshly painted engnie, 1200 miles, clean engine bay, subframe etc now ALL covered in oil because the centre post snapped.

I did exactly what the old one shows to repair it - welded some tig around the post the keep it in place. Now i know its never going to come out.

I highly suggest ANYONE using this pedestal get that post welded on. It should cost less than $20 from any shop that can do the work. Its worth it - ive had to strip my car down to the point where the only thing left on the engine is the turbos and LIM in order to clean all the oil off that got ejected into the engine bay.

Seriously guys, do it. That new pedestal looks nice, but i wouldnt trust it. Get a spot of weld put on there.

I was the first person to have a problem with this pedistal. I posted on NP, apparently I was the only person with this issue. Apparently I wasn't the only person. I am very frustrated with the fact that I had to put a great deal of extra work into my car because of a very careless mistake.
In fact, I would go as far as to say the people who had their pedistal post blow off should be entitled to a free pedistal AND extra money for the effort. Obviously that will not happen, it's just very very dissapointing to have something like this happen.

hopefully the mods won't get pissed, but here is the Link

I read about that on Nopiston and I sent mine in to get it welded. Actually, ReSpeed sent out an email to those who purchased the unit and I sent it in.

The new version looks to be great! I have the Greddy attatchment on my blk FD and it worked, except it was just pain in the *** to change the oil filter and also I had to only use mazda oem filters (aftermarket filter were too high).

I'm now considering this:

Eventually, I would like to go with all SS lines and this would save me sometime getting adaptors and such (-10). ReSpeed sell it for the same price as the normal pedestal (http://www.mrcmfg.com/respeed/catalog/index.php)

You can get the metric (M18X1.5) adapter for $4.50.
But that would save you the step.
So the main piece is now one solid cnc'd piece and not pressed in like the old design?

They said they emailed everyone. I was in on the first group buy and I was never emailed. They said I had an email problem when I asked why I didn't get the word. I say BS. Thanks to this forum, Scrub and NP forum I was informed before I had the chance to get hosed.

Thanks to all!

Herblenny, If I were you, I'd buy that piece now. It twas actually I who called up Respeed and we put our heads together to make that piece. They only made 4, and there are three left. Gues who got the first one.

As for using the metric adapter on the end of the original design. Horrible idea. It throws the oil line way to far off the block and adds a potential leak. Banjo fitings/crush washers suck moose ****.

I agree with you. If I could avoid adding adaptors, I would. Also, its the same price as the other one.

I'm not talking about any Banjo fittings/crush washers or any fancy adapters.
I'm using and talking about using one of these, which you would need for the front cover and oil pedestal if you want to run AN fittings and lines anyways.

I'n not using any stock anything.

How do you think that seals with the stock oil pedasdal or the old Respeed one?

CRUSH WASHER! Crush washers suck! & for the record I plan on removing that "adapter" from the front cover and tig welding on a bung AND cutting both threaded sections off the oil cooler (FC) and welding bungs onto that as well. How many people have experienced leaks or seeping with crushwashers? Almost everyone I know. How many people have had -ANY size fittings leak? I don't know of any. Adapters suck. Do it the right way once. This piece is the right way. And it is SOOOOO beautiful.

Whatever you say man. I don't have any leaks and I've got more AN fittings and (leaky adapters) for just my radiator an electric water pump setup than most people have on their entire car. If you think the right way to do it , is to use a product that has (in it's rather short history) been known to fail then be my guest.

I just wanted to clear up a few things here.

First off, after the first report to a "dealer", we were made aware of the issue. At that point we decided to offer the upgrade of all pedestals. This upgrade is free of charge.

Second, ALL customers who purchased the unit from us were sent and email. The email address used was the paypal address when they were purchased though the group buy. We had a number of those bounce back to us.

Third, The new pedestal center section is machined from one piece billet stock. There is no need for welding it. The -10 or FD bung is fully welded around the outside. There is no chance a failure at this point.

I apologize to anyone who did not receive the email when sent. If you were to ask around, I am sure you will find customer service is a high priority for us and we stand behind our products.
