new price of FD

I have been in rotary world for 8yrs. and am buying a 94 VR PEG/PEP,
I used the info from FAQ for guidelines and some forum members
I want to know, what the original cost of car like this was, I am on dial up and work long hours, so this is 1 time I need a quick answer. I could ballpark, but I want accuracy. thanx

I had a 94's sticker that listed MSRP @ $40,100 for a PEP package... with Sunroof, Bose, No Spoiler, No front Lip...

Base price of an early '93 was 31,300. First price increase (of many to follow) was around $1200 sometime in August '92. The '94s were ALOT more than that.

The retail price on the 94s and 95s was in the low 40s but a shrewd buyer paid in the low 30s so his cost should of been low 30s.

Not really sure why you care though

I look at the cost of FDs relative to other fun sports cars available today:
s2000
BMW m3
350z
Evo
STI
Miata
corvette
etc.....

Given the other options paying more than 20k for an FD is crazy unless it's a very special car. Fortunately there are some really nice cars being made now.

MSRP's above are apprx. correct. Realize that in August of 1994 Mazda had a dealer rebate/incentive deal which if I remember was 1k for the first car 2k for the second 4k total up to 5k for 5 cars or 25k total - if you sold five and then it started again. I paid $29,900 for my R2 black / black with a gold emblem package-less $3,800 for my '86 FC trade with 90k on the clock-needed work. I negotiated back between two dealers who both priced the car at $29,900 -both were on number 5 and 10k in 1994 was and still is alot of coin. Getting a high priced slow selling car off the floorplan was great motivation....One gave me a 2k lowball offer on the trade and the rest is history. So to answer the "cost" question I think you need to understand what market force was in place. If you bought early in 04 you paid more than if you bought late.
