New motor questions

Just started up my fresh rebuild. I did the motor myself and everything seems to be working great. Here's my concern I believe I have oil pressure but the gage isn't showing anything at all. Is there an off chance I couldn't have any oil pressure. Any help would be great

Jeremy

If you truly had no pressure, that would be a bad thing.

Try backing the oil pressure sensor out a half turn or so. See if that makes a difference. Also, make sure you have the correct connector on it. It's easy to get the oil pressure and the coolant sensor mixed up. They are similar connectors and right next to each other.

How long did the engine run, if it made it more than about 30 seconds it has pressure. No oil pressure would cause bearing failure very quickly.

Please check it out. It is uncommon to loose oil pressure but I had the same problem and it turned out I really had no oil pressure. Boom.

It is a lesson learned. Don't trust anyone, even you mechanic to tell you "ahhh, its just the sensor"

The oil pressure sensor connector is on the driver's side (engine harness) and the coolant temperature sensor is on the passenger's side (emissions harness) coming over on top of the rotor housings. It is more than likely a mixed up or missing connector. Good luck!

That's a pretty difficult feat to pull off, how did you manage it ?

was your gauge working when you removed the engine?
if you have a fsm, find the color of the oil pressure gauge/sender trace it(driver side rear iron. The sender is about the size of a baby food bottle(slightly slimer) with a prong on the end. Make sure its plugged in with the correct signal wire(as mentioned above, the temp sensor is close and its one wire also...easy to mix up although i dont think the wire will stretch).
If its plugged in and still no reading...go on the FS section and find a used one. I paid about 40 for one and its good.
My stock sender was on the way out when I bought the FD so It never really did work. I ended up getting a HKS electronic gauge to be safe. So it had been almost a decade before my stock gauge moved. Go get one.
