Hello everyone im a new member, and i just bought a 93 RX7, its black. and i have alot of engine problems(saw that one coming).Im putting alot of $$ into it before i start driving it. I think im going to get an engine rebuild and what not first, the major problem is, theres GAS in my oil tank, and i have an oil leak the size of texas. its gotten so bad that oil tracks under my car. I dont know if anyones ever had that problem, but its coming straight from the oil filter, so hopefully the filter was screwed on wrong or something so its no major problem to fix. I got its for about 8,000 thats the plus side tho. I have a greddy exhaust system and turbo timer, and boost guage and brembo cross drilled and slotted brakes. and i was just wondering after a temp gauge. what would be the best modification, ive been around many sites, but im not sure what is the absolute most important mod. also i was wondering if there was anyone around the s.cali orange county region that might be able to help me with anything. Also, ifi have the brembos, and i wanted to get lets say i wnated to get SSR integral 18 X 8.5 would i have to roll my fenders, and would i have any problem with them hitting my brakes? Thanx

absolutely #1 thing to get,
is a DOWNPIPE, this will clear out that lame
cat that gets clogged and causes backpressure hurting
your engine, and will also lower enging compartment heat, not to mention give u more power.

I'm not sure about your oil leak problem,
it is common, but I'm not sure if its your engine or
someting else. Either way, you payed 8k, your going to have to get a new engine. thats just how things are,
your not gonna pay 8k for an FD and get a good engine, hehe.

If you get 18x8.5 wheels you should not have problems
with them rubbing the fenders, especially if you have stock suspension(although you'll really want to lower it for that killer prowling look, not to mention handling).
But it depends alot on your tires, if you get really fat tires then you could have rubbing.
I had rubbing with 245 tires, and stock wheels, but most of it was due to blown front shocks, heh.
and I wouldnt worry about the brakes.

anyways, WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!
I think you got a pretty good deal on your car,
even if you have to do some work on it.

Thanx for the feed back, Which downpipe should i go with, or does it make any difference...HKS, M2, Petit Racing? Maybe Racing Beat, the Racing Beat factory and headquarters is about 4 miles from my house. Yea im pretty sure i need a new engine, i dont bother driving it, i just bought it because i saw the great deal, its just being garaged right now til the engine is rebuilt. i dont want any fires or anything to happen so no bother risking it. Here is a pic, it has the apexi front bumper, i could use a spoiler too but here it is.

not bad,
paint looks really nice,
although i c you have a ding in your door.
Call a paintless dent removal guy,
he'll pop it out so it looks like it was never there for
hella cheap.

Anyways,
I dont think the brand of downpipe matters that much,
its just whether or not you want stainless steel.
personaly I dont like SS unless your gonna do the whole engine bay up like that, BUT THATS JUST ME

I also wouldnt be able to resist at least driving it around the block, hehe, but thats also just me

Heres another pic, i also have a 10" sub, its a clean system, and my cd face is pretty nice, it flips around when the car is off, and theres also a remote to it which is kind of pointless but its still cool i guess, also 1 more quick question, i currently set my turbo timer to 1.50, what should i set it too for short distance driving, and for long distance driving? AH and heres somethign else wrong with the car thats a common problem, my driver side door is broken =(, i installed HID xenon bulbs also, very bright. replaced the stock ones, i dont think the stock ones were powerful enough. I also have a blitz blow off valve that i need to install. i just need to find out to how to do it first.

Hmmm... If you are losing oil from the filter location, you might just have a leak in the banjo joint's washer. Specifically, there is an oil cooler return line going into the side of the oil filter mounting spot. This line is bolted into the cooler mount using a hollowed out bolt that allows oil to pass through it. The outside of the little housing that is at the end of the oil line looks like a banjo when disconnected, thus the name. Anyway, there are washers used to seal the banjo housing to the side of the filter mount. If the oil line is EVER removed, and often even if it is never touched, these washers will leak. Go to your nearest mazda dealer, ask them for these washers (check the manual to find out if you need two. I pretty sure you do, but it's been a while...), pop that line off, replace the washers, torque the bolt to the EXACT spec listed in the manual. Too loose, AND too tight, you will get a leak.

Happy hunting. BTW, do you KNOW the engine is bad?

Also, right after the downpipe, get a boose gauge that you can mount in the car. Best thing I've done so far...

I installed the Pettit SS downpipe. Stopped looking like SS 30 seconds after startup. LOTS of heat (like 450 Celcius!!! And that's at idle (more than 800F)).

from the pics the car looks in really good condition (paint and interior). that's the way to go, get a good condition car and fix the mechanical problems. oh, i don't think they make integrals anymore. i wanted some, but not available.

Thanx for the info about the oil leak, i will look at it within a week and tell you how that goes, it could save me a ton of money, the guy that had it before me took it to jiffy lube to get the oil changed, maybe they messed it up. After also i get the oil leak fixed, to clean up all the oil would it be smart to get my engine steam cleaned? I also already have an autometer boost gauge, its not installed yet, i need the pod to hold it on the pillar. also whats with my license plate, its 3SPY, i found another RX and its 4SPY, is it some kind of gang, haha, just wondering.

Phat N.

heres a pic of it

as far as that BOV goes, I got the same one, u just need a flange for it, that runs into the rubber piece that comes off of the y pipe. That is, as long as ur keeping the stock configuration. Otherwise, ur just gonna have to weld it eventually.
