New invention. Permenant wideband guys please read.

Sounds Interesting, allthough, by the time it heads into leaner afr's, it's usually too late... I like alarms, but I'd like it better if it retarded sparc if it noticed a lean condition...

edit: I mean DCrosby's AEM ECU, not the wideband sensor

i just read it off of http://www.motec.com/products/plm/sensors.htm
Though I'd hate to encourage the hijack...
I've heard the 500Hrs figure before, myself (http://www.mainlineauto.com.au/produ...ission/afr806/)... as well as a 100kMi figure. Maybe Motec is being realistic, knowing that the sensors, for their applications, are going into performance engines with higher EG temperatures and richer mixtures.
Look at Bosch's datasheet: http://wbo2.com/lsu/Y258K01005e03mar21eng.pdf
In sec. 2.11 they list the ideal conditions to reach a 100kMi lifespan. If we followed them, maybe we'd get the EPA highway mileage Mazda claims (
) There are a lot of variables to consider. ... But that's for another thread.

I'm about to invent a crystal ball that attaches to the ECU.
The ECU will know WHEN it will detonate and adjust fuel settings accordingly just before the point of detonation

Another interesting thing they do is that if the engine starts detonating BELOW this limit, it re-tunes itself assuming a bad tank of fuel, and then when the fuel gauge changes upwards by more than half a tank, it assumes most of the bad fuel is gone/diluted and it re-tests for the limits again.
