New Greddy FMIC and problems...

I just installed a new Greddy FMIC with my stock twins. For some reason I have less boost and horsepower now than I did before. When I accelerate I here a loud whistling and lots of air noise under boost.

Any thoughts what might be causing this?

Check your work. If it was fine before the install, then it's something you caused.

Check the IC piping and couplers (including y-pipe), also make sure your BOV still has it's vacuum source to the UIM (or where ever you are getting the source from).

I know im gboing to sound like an *******.. Im not trying to be.. But it absolutly amazes me that people who have a decent amount of modifications cant troubleshoot for ****.. I mean come on... Airnoise+only under boost+Lose of HP............

Did you bother to check what your boost gauge is reading???? Please tell me you have a boost gauge.

I do have boost gauge! and I have checked all the hoses and clamps and such. Nothing visible there. I am maxing at about 10psi with the controller turned pretty much all the way up. Before the FMIC I would blow the turbos up if I had the controller set that high. I was thinkning that one of the factory BOV's was letting air leak out under boost?

Does anyone know what is the end of the efficiancy range on the factory twins?

thx

You have a boost leak man, it's as simple as that. One of your couplers is probably loose, or torn, or something along those lines. How can you install an FMIC and not know how to check for a boost leak?

check to see if any of the couplers or intercooler pipes came loose. You probably didn't fasten the couplers on tight enough or in the wrong position so when you boost, the pipes blew off. If I remember correctly, the greddy FMIC has a lot of piping so just start by checking the intercooler pipes first.

yeah but we got to draw the line some where. If you don't know what a air leak or a boost leak sound like, you shouldn't be wrenching on the car.

Once you find your boost leak, which I can tell you pretty much is at the IC entrace coupler, TURN DOWN THE BOOST before you drive the car. Then get you a freaking boost gauge which should have been the first thing you should got!!!

Again, I have a boost gauge and so forth. I also know what a boost leak sounds like but I thought I might have been leaking due to a faulty air bypass Valve. THe air coming out under boost is pretty loud and it whistles.

It's basic troubleshooting. The first place you start is exactly with what you changed, which would be the IC piping and any other hose/line changes you made.

And yes, turn your boost controller DOWN first. You never should have raised it in the first place, the second you saw low boost, you should have realized something was hooked up incorrectly (or not at all).

Good luck, I bet you find the problem within 5 minutes once you actually go look.

when you raise boost like that to compensate for a boost leak you are placing EXTREME stress on your turbo and are shooting right by their effeciency range, Thus blowing a crapload of hotair. If you do not fix the problem you WILL 1 pop your motor and 2 blow your turbos...... That being said.... Find the leak

If you are positive that you checked your connections then you could have a crushed / deformed pipe. If you used t-bolt clamps you could have crushed one of the pipes and wouldn't see it under the coupler. Just a thought.
