Actually it would be worth my time and money to keep the rotary in the RX7 and put the LS1 in my GMC Sonoma for driving to work and making smoke clouds at random stoplights. I would have the best of what I want then. Is it better to get a rebuilt motor from the dealer or get one from a builder, i.e. Gotham, KD, etc. This has probably been discussed on another thread that I haven't found yet.
I would like some minor performance upgrades done to put it around 300hp.

From the dealer, you'll get a remanufactured engine. They are generally a pretty good value, although to make performance improvements (porting) done you have to tear them apart. The man for buying a reman engine is Ray at Malloy Mazda (888-533-3400) - he will tell you the truth about what he has on hand and he knows what he's selling, and he'll get you the best price.

Another option is an aftermarket builder. There are many, and the quality does vary widely. They will build it with whatever mods you want to put in it, although the bill adds up pretty quick if you want thicker apex seals, ceramic coating, etc, etc. For 300rwhp (a reasonable number in my opinion for value and reliability), I think either a reman or builder will be a good option.

see, we got him to think about it. Now you are making a lot more sense, that would be great. I think that dave is right with your options. God knows he has helped me out more than a few times. Listen to him. Good luck, I want to see more FD's ressurected. Its up to all of us to keep this car running and representing. Otherwise it will die out and no more. I am sure there is info on engine swap in the FAQ section. If not do an advanced search, about engine swap. Good luck.
