New FD owner, 2nd post and 12,500 orig. miles
Hello, I'd like to formally introduce myself and the car. My name is Luc (aka Sip).
I just bought a 1992 FD type-x, silver with 12,500 original miles (20,000kms).
I'm wondering if it could be the lowest milage 92-96 on the board. Chime in if you have one with less.
The car is bone stock and one of 8 JDM cars I am importing to Canada. The others are a GC8 WRX, EVO, SW20 MR2, BMW 320i, Miata, Celica GT-4 and a 180SX.
I'm sure people went straight to the pics, so i'll just stop here.
Enjoy.
Is that paint peel on the headlight? Common problem?
I hope you like the pics.
Sip.

The interior looks flawless... but interestingly enough there is no shift ****. Does anyone know what threadding the ***** have. I'm going to look for an RX8 **** if it will fit.
Not bad for 15 year old leather.
Don't you just love that "new car" look.
And finally... WTF were the BOSE engineers smoking....huhuhuhu... let's see how much useless plastic we can fit in the hatch of a sportscar...

The RX-8 **** will fit. Here you can buy a 5 speed RX-8 **** (to avoid the fake 6 sped rice look) or I would recommend the Mazdaspeed ****. I just bought it and it is very sleeper but feels great.

I'm jealous of you miles though (but not your sunroof).
I agree with you on the Bose crap. This is why I have a R1.
Are you reselling these cars?

I notice some detail differences on your car. I wonder if it isn't a prototype or pre-production model? The Temp and ventilation controls look different from any I've seen. Maybe they were common on Japanese production cars, but I haven't seen them before. I'm sure some JDM expert will chime in with an explanation.
It's also the first time I've seen the rear seat set up looking in from the rear through the hatch. You can see how well finished it is where the carpet meets the console. The end of the console is much different from the U.S. rear bins / console set up we see here. The entire rear seat installation looks much better. I also spotted the latch handles on the sides of the front seats so the midgets who have been stuffed in the back can escape their confinement.
People have tried to put the JDM rear seats in their U.S. cars but it can end up looking hacked in, and the installation lacks the finishing touches we see here.

^ ^ US market never got the backset version, did they?
I didn't know it had a backseat until after I bought it. I thought about taking it out to save weight, but i kinda like the look.
I wonder if I'll get flammed for auto-crossing mine?
Have you ever auto-crossed you FD? *Looks at your avatar.

Just kidding. Car looks good. What's on the LHS light cover? I'd also like to know what's up with the climate control *****?

I couldnt see any straps for midgets only the seatbelt holder on the seat, and I didnt realize you guys in the US dont get FD's with rear seats! Your sooo lucky. The climate control is factory, I have not seen many with this but I have one identical sitting in my shed as I replaced it with a later model heater control.

You don't like your back seats?
How is the picky, materialistic girlfriend doing? LOL. This is my 1st FD, are they really as bad as the FD="f**cking Disaster" reputation indicates?

Beautiful! RX-7.com has the RX8 shift **** for $99 and the Mazdaspeed(with mazdaspeed etched vertically) $129. I have the latter. It is just like the original except for the imprint. I also have 1 of 8... in Ohio. 1995 that is. got it two years ago with 6,300 miles. It now has 11,022. I was going to keep it stock, but in two years I've added a downpipe(coated), AST replacement, Goodyear tires, and I am about to install a Cheap Bastard intake with a Racing Beat cb, boost controller and maybe later a new computer. Pettit or Power FC Have Fun with it!

I would leave the back seat in. I don't know about Canada, but a factory installed back seat with all the trimmings is rare.
As far as a shift **** goes, the stock shift **** is still available from dealers. No aftermarket shift **** has the weight and feel of the stock ****. I think there's a lead weight inside the leather. The heavier feel helps you slam home quick shifts.
I have two aftermarket shift *****, one of them a Mazdaspeed, and I use them to preserve my original unit. But when I want to do some serious driving there's nothing like the stock ****.

It looks like nothing I've seen even on the very early U.S. cars. So, I'm guessing it was an Asian market thing. And from what you've written I'm guessing it didn't last long and was quickly changed to the controls we're more familiar with. Do you think that's it? Any idea of when the change was made?

Just wondering if the car has an accident history. Low miles and paint flaking off of the left side headlight cover make it suspect. Looks very nice though.

There might be accident history. However, I used to work in the automotive industry and lots of first year cars get trial paint (especially in the 90s) We had cars going out with two different types of paint in order to do a "real world" test of the durability. This is why you will always see certain models with peeling paint. So, it is possible that Mazda whanged their paint after the first year production run.

hey, the paint chipping on your passenger headlight cover is probably becasue the cover is loose. Chances are it vibrates when u drive, which causes teh paint to spider, and eventually- crack. Just rip it off, make sure the housing isnt broken, then just tighten everything. Had the same problem on mine, but it didnt get bad enuf to chip.
the climate ***** are a lot different than mine, but the carpetin the hatcha dn the ***** ont eh seats are normal. And very handy. lol
