New Engine!! Yikes

Need advice ASAP, found a 3rd gen with a leaking compartment seal. I was told a new engine is needed. If I buy this car, How much should I pay? I was told a new engine and turbos installed go for 6-8K. I really want one of these cars, but they're so rare!

well, you don't really need a NEW engine. get it rebuilt.

the cost will be anywhere from $2K - $10K+, with an average of just below $3K.

39,000 on new motor

its got 39,000 on the new motor, and 124,000 on the car. I've anticipated the possibility of having to put a new motor in it. Anyone ever done business with www.mazdarx7engines.com?

It's in great physical condition too.

Looking at your compression numbers, it doesn't look like you'll need a new/rebuilt engine soon.

You said there was a leak, oil or coolant?

Just because there is a leak, doesn't mean you need a rebuild. Sounds like you got a good deal. Get the leak checked out. It may be something like the oil lines to the turbos or something else minor.

I second that notion.

If you're gonna have it done, have it done right.

Sounds like you may be okay for awhile though.

What's wrong with the turbos?? You said the car is still making decent power? KD Rotary is another alternative for engines - his reputation is as good as Pineapples except on the east coast. There's a place called Conestoga that rebuilds turbos for KDR - he said they've done about 2 dozen sets for him and had 0 failure with them (even some heavily modded cars) That's the route I'm going - costs $900-$1100 for rebuild. There are some junk turbo rebuilders out there (Turbonetics, etc.) Constogas # is 717-872-6685 if interested. With that compression you could drive and enjoy the car for a while. $4K

Possible leak

The mazda tech at the dealership where I had the compression test done said that the compartment seal was leaking..I dont know if he know's what he's doing or not. I just wanted the compression numbers. I'd like a second opinion, but I dont want to keep shelling out money to have the damn thing tested. I'd rather put the money into the car.
