I bought a new engine from Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda.

Cost me 4210 shipped to my door in WA state from where he is at.

He only had a few left at the time.

New > Reman IMHO
Good Rebuild > Reman IMHO
Reman > Blown engine IMHO

Are new engines even available? Last time I checked, even the ones you get at Mazda were reman.

Ray Crowe bought up the last of the New Mazda 13B-REW's from Mazda. They are no longer being produced. I don't know if he still ahs any, better call and ask.

Otherwise your options are rebuild, reman, or used from USDM or any other market.

The new engines that Ray Crowe has only work with the manuals is what he told me.

So you think a good rebuild is better than a reman? Hell there can't be much difference because all a reman is, is a good rebuild from Mazda, right?

Kind of. They only replace the parts that are neccessary to get the engine running is what I have heard. Also, I have heard more horror stories of build errors on Mazda remans than I have on reputable shops rebuilds.

I am a numbers type of guy. Play the percentages and you will fall in the percentages.

You cannot buy a "new" engine from Mazda any longer. They farm out the remans to a non-mazda engine facilty, this is where the quality problem occurs.

Correct, you can no longer buy them from Mazda. But, you can get one from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda if he has any left. He was down to 2 or 3 when I got mine earlier this year.

And it is a NEW engine. not a reman.

Yeah, I got a little worried lately. One morning, it ran rough when first cranked up and then smoothed out. Got a crap ton of white smoke (like steam) from the exhaust. Assumed the worst like a water jacket o-ring filled the combustion chamber full of water, then it pumped it out when cranked up causing the steam.

Here's the weird part, only did it that one morning. Every morning since then, cranks up just fine, no rough running, no steam, just like every morning before that one time. Strange.
