New ECU harness extra connector

Hey folks, Doing an R and R on a 93 FD and the ECU harness was toast. New harness from Mazda has an additional brown connector. This is NOT the single connector for the fan test. Looks simular to existing connector which did not come out with the harness that is connected to the small control module. Do I need this?

Is it a small black connector? Do you have a pic?

Looks like an exact duplicate of the existing connector that goes to the small control module. This car was produced in 6/92 and seems to have an extra harness that connects to the ECU and the car and did not come out with the engine. I checked the old harness and it is not there. Something must have changed as these cars were produced. Looks like 5 wires utilizing a 16 wire connector. I will check to see if actually plugs into the small control module and get a pic.......

Here is the pic. Two connectors - 1 is plugged in to the control module and the extra one is in the new harness

Keeps getting better...Looks like the new harness has an additional connector for the small control unit and the fan test ground. So I have two of each. Seems like they were trying to eliminate the additional wiring harness that connects the blue connectors together. Anybody know about the development in this area?

When they did the cooling system recall, they added in a small jumper cable harness that went to the engine harness, chassis harness, and the black fan mod control box on the back of the ecu.

The new harness does not require the jumper harness to be connected to it as all is hardwired into the new harness. You should not have an extra connector.

I am also restoring my 93 that I bought after an engine fire. I am replacing the wiring harness this weekend (cross your fingers). I bought my harness along with some sensors from Malloy Mazda. Ray Crowe is my hero!
Anyways, I don't know about the extra connectors but I'll let you know what I find out.

Don't worry about the extra connector. I did mine and just left it, everything works fine.
I was told 2 possibilities for that connector. It's either the fan test or emissions. Either case it will not effect anything if left alone.

Car started no problems...wasn't this fan mod supposed to keep the fans turning after the car is turned off?

The fan mod box was installed for dealer testing. It just so happens to have a function that we can use.

If you ground out the single female spade ( not used ) wire connector from the module, two minutes before engine shutoff; then the fans will run for 10 minutes post shut down.

It took a couple days worth of driving for my rebuilt engine to settle its idle down.
