Last weekend I actually had time to fool with the car a bit . I installed a new Mazda oil pressure sender, and also took the old one apart to see how it works and why it fails. In the writeup is a KEEN movie of the oil pressure sender too - whoopee!

I also installed an oil temp sender in the oil cooler banjo bolt. Easy, cheap (actually free) and seems to be solid and quality. Dunno what the readings are like yet, that has to wait until I get the sender actually wired in .

wont the temp sender restrict oil flow?

 

When you opened the pressure sender, was the return spring all streched out?

 

I think the reduction of flow with the sender there will be negligible. At least it doesn't show in the oil pressure readings!

A worn return spring is another possibility - it did spring back easily, but it's hard to say how "good" the spring was.
