Cool New Baby

Hey everyone! So.....I've one of those who had wanted an FD since the day i could drive.....my first car was a1974 karmann ghia, then a 1989 MR2....and now finally, i have the 2 seater worthy of a Kamikaze Pilot. I've been reading the forums long before even looking at them, and I waited till I found one that felt right deep down inside. It happened....found one garage kept- original owner with 49975 miles on it...still smelled like new inside, interior is immaculate....Completely Sotck except a tasteful Topspeed muffler which is throaty, yet not obnoxious (perfect IMHO) and a K&N filter! yippee!! so i get this car and im driving it home , my dream realized.....i was in some kind of altered state on the highway , eyes somewhat glazed, perhaps. I wasn't even trying to test the car out or anything, i was just happy to finally have it....but after about 10 miles of going 60 on the highway i saw a little opportunity to do a lil bob'n'weave ...zoom....looked down i was goin a buck 10 just like that ! oops! yippeee!
I must say, after fantasizing about this vehicle for some 8 years, i was a bit worried about whether it would live up to my expectations of balance and control, coming from supremely balanced MR2, and i must say after 1 hour in this car, i knew it surpassed all expectations, leaving them in the dust. Lightning in a world of Thunder indeed!
So i had been driving it bout a week, i do the normal tuneup/replacement stuff and i also took it to have the dudes at KD rotary look it over............Dave there tells me he hasnt seen a stock, clean FD this nice for a long time *smile* , then he tells me everything looks great, he cant believe how soft the rubber hoses are still, all is kosher except one thing........dun dun duuuuhh!!! apparently when the last owner took it to the mazda dealership for one of the recalls (like 3 years ago) the retards at the dealership put it back together a bit odd, and switched the solenoids to the turbo......so my second turbo was spinning, but not enough to do anything....So Dave's like "when i switch those back to normal, you will have about +50 hp " i was like :^O !!! The car already blew my mind.....i thought that turbo was already on! holy stromboli !
Needless to say......it's even more perfect and kickass now....and first things i am looking into are boost/temp gauge and a kickass sound system....i think i will enjoy the stockness for a bit before i do anything else to it......shiet is way faster than anything else on the road already anyway.... btw ...it is red......never thought i'd own a red car , ever......i absolutely love it <3

I had the same reaction. I have literally wanted this kind of car for 20 years, but was never in a place to buy one.

The maintenance is key and I spent a lot of time getting it right. Now, more than ever it is fun and seems to be quite dependable. I plan on freshening the motor around 70 K. Much cheaper to just put seals in than replace housings and rotors and the like. I consider that part of the maintenance.

BTW, mine is all stock except for the downpipe and boost controller. The stock ones are a dying breed.

happy for you... post pics when you have the chance.

Some words of advice though, boost/temp gauge is a good idea... but ditch the sound system and use that money to get an aluminum AST, dp, and upgraded radiator. You can do the sound system and other bling bling stuff later if you have the cash. You can still enjoy the "stockness" along with having it be quite reliable.

OEM is fine... or as Richard stated Hawk... a lot of folks use Hawk and they are happy. I can't even remember my brand I used ceramic pads though, that I remember...

I will be picking a 7 up soon too. I have wanted one of these since the very first time I saw it in Car and Driver. I had the chance to buy a nicely prepped RX7 back in '99 but passed on it. Since that time I have had the opportunity to own a few great cars: a BMW M3 and I purchased a '98 Integra Type R back in 2001.

I have track driven all of my cars and even instruct on select days at DE events. I feel the time has come for me to step up and realize that fantasy the 7 has always represented.

Congrats

Sounds like a nice car. Get the AST, and the sound system Stock brake pads work just fine for street drivng. Have fun with it, but don't get crazy. You don't want to risk crashing your new (nice) car.
