needing a smartphone speed app
i hope someone on the board has a handle on an app for my phone... hopefully i can end up w a recording out the front windshield of et, distance, speed while retaining the forward view.
thanks
thanks
I used to use this application RaceChrono – Laptimer for iPhone and Android before i switched to the AIM Racestudio through my PDM. Draggy works great also and it may be better suited for what you are asking. Racechrono goes a step further with race tracks telemetry etc. An external GPS sensor (10hz or so) is recommended for better accuracy and refresh rate. i was using this before and i was very happy with it

TrackAddict may be an option. Has both free and paid versions and options for circuit, drag, and segment. Segment may be useful for 100 - 200 kph runs. It also has a raw data mode but I don't know anything about reading the raw data.
Also doing some googling of, update rates of iphones, it appears they are too slow in there default setup, i.e. 1hz updates. My quick search did not find a way for the phone user to set this update rate for the phone as a whole. I found some references to internal phone api's that imply it may be possible to increase the sample rate. If that is an option then the application being used would have to request this, thus digging into the documentation of given applications (when available), or experimentation, would be needed to determine usability for 100 - 200 kph runs.

GoPro doesn't do the data overlay or fast GPS/accel measurement, does it? I think the Dragy device and app should be pretty easy if you can mount the phone using a suction cup on the windshield. It's basically designed to do what you're wanting to do, here's an example video showing 0-60 times including an RX7:
