need YOUR opinion

Here is what I am dealing with. My cousin just bought a 93 TT with 38,000 miles. I work at a local performance shop and will be doing the work myself. His turbo is through out a pretty good amount of oil and is in need of turbos or turbo. We were thinking of doing the greddy single kit but also know how these cars work and how everything has to be perfect. What would you guys do in this situation. Can we put the sigle on it for now and run low boost on the stock fuel system? What would be the best way to tune the car after that? the APexi unit or what? I was thinking of putting the single on and a clutch and just let him get used to that. Also if you guys know what kind of power a single would make on low boost too. thank you so much for any info.

Matt

i think you should post this in the single turbo forum. but let it be known that you need alot more for a single turbo upgrade. you need different plugs, injectors, fuel pump, ingition amp, intercooler, radiator, block off plates, full exhaust, dp, mp"with or with out high flow cat", wastegate, boost controller, some gauge to moniter everything, a ecu....i recommend using something that most people in your area use. that way you can get it worked on if there is something you cant figure out. you need a map for the single turbo kit which will be hard to find since you want to use the stock setup. clutch, blow off valve, and probably some more little things i forgot. anyways its possible but i wouldnt do it if it was me. i saw it cost me around about 9 grand to go single.

Why don't you just buy a used set of Stock twins that are still good? I've seen them sell for as little as $400-700 for a set that is inn good working order. There should be a few guys that have already gone single and have these laying around.

Check or post in the 3rd gen parts section.

I would do this for now while you get the car "ready" go single. You know, get the IC, full exhaust, ignition amp etc.

* Damn! 9 grand to go single!?!?!? I won't be doing that this year....

What is the ign amp? I was planning on putting on the turbo and running low boost. So therefore for the mean time i wouldn't think you would need a fuel system of any means. Getting a BOV wont be a big deal. The kit comes with an intake and downpipe and the wastegate. I would probably replace the stock IC but would just like to put on the single for now.

I'm no expert here, But form what I hear you NEED a better IC. The stock IC is a POS.

Here's the Ignition Amp info: http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=213&1=276&3=397

THE CAR MY COUSIN WAS TALKING ABOUT, IS MINE! I BOUGHT THIS CAR ABOUT A WEEK AGO, AND I'M TOO IMPATIENT TO DO STUFF, I HAVE BEEN WANTIN TO BUILD A CAR SINCE I WAS 14. THE FIRST TURBO IS GOING OUT. SO AS MY COUSIN SAID, WE WERE PLANNING ON PUTTING A SINGLE TURBO KIT ON IT. THE KIT IS FROM GREDDY, IT'S A T78, COMPLETE WITH INTAKE, WASTEGATE, DOWNPIPE, AND SOME OTHER GOODIES. I WANT TO MAKE THIS CAR AN ANIMAL. SO HERE IS MY PLAN. PUT ON THE NEW TURBO FROM GREDDY. THEN BUY A TUNING SYSTEM, PROBABLY APEXI. NEXT, A BOV, DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND. THEN, AIR FUEL, BOOST, AND WATER TEMP GAUGES. THEN LIKE YOU SAID, I WILL DO A BIG FRONT MOUNT INVERCOOLER. THEN SOME OTHER STUFF THAT WILL ULTIMATELY EQUAL MORE POWER! I AM MOSTLY LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON THE BOOST. WE WERE GOING TO ORDER IT NEXT WEEK, THEN PUT IT ON AND RUN LOW BOOST, TO HAVE IT READY FOR THE OTHER STUFF, THEN CRANK IT UP AFTER THAT. TELL ME ALL OF YOUR INFO, I'M VERY INTERESTED IN LEARNING, AND I WANT THIS CAR DONE RIGHT AND TO BE FAST AS SHIAT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!

You are doing it all backwards. You need to buy the ECU and upgrade your intercooler, radiator, gauges, and fuel system first, then put on the turbo kit. If you cant afford $10,000 + $5K if your engine goes bad, then you probably shouldn't be doing this all at once. How are you going to control the boost with that big single without a boost controller? How are you going to keep the engine from running lean and blowing itself up? You should try getting a downpipe, intake, and catback with some used good working stock turbos, and add a Power FC and see how quick the car is. Trying to do everything all at once is a good way to say bye to your engine and spend a lot more than you planned.

i have a set of stock twins i dont need since i went single turbo. make me an offer. rebuilt by pettit about 7k ago for a leaky oil line.

please stop using caps it makes it hard to read. and yeah get a ecu, and exhaust. the rx7 with stock twins can be a very very fast car if modded properly.

you need my entire mod list...if you want to go single...then you will also need the 1600 inj and fuel rail...

you can NOT run that car on the stock system. even at low boost. you will be too lean in some areas and too rich in others.

honestly I think you are over your head here...start small...do all the reliability mods first...then the dp, intake, catback, ecu, ic, ignition, fuel system etc...etc...before you do anything with upgrading the turbo.

search...this has all been covered extensively.

precise information can be found at www.scuderiaciriani.com
