Need your opinion...

Saw this car locally: CLICK HERE. They told me it was a single turbo and it has 145K on the engine. Tranny felt strong and did not slip. Car is bone-stock. ONLY THING...it is a twin turbo and the secondary didn't kick in at all, 1st gear pull was strong as hell and right after 5K it had nothing as if it was N/A. So I am thinking the secondary turbo is out, I explained it to them and got the price down to $7,500. Is it still worth it though? If it needs a turbo rebuild I would need to rebuild both since one is going to be stronger than the other right? How much should I offer them?

Thanks for the help!

145K on the engine = rebuilt in the very, very near future.

As far as the second turbo being dead... Not really could be a bad solenoid.

Actually, I find it hard to believe the engine is that old, unless they've had serious turbo issues for a while(i.e. boost leak). The car may have a rebuilt engine and the dealership just doesn't know it. Otherwise, yeah, it needs a rebuild, like tomorrow.

Absolutely!

See if you can get another test drive and use a boost gauge to check the boost. See if you can get a compression check done, that should tell you ALOT about the condition of the engine.

At $7,500 it may be worth it. Just plan for a rebuild of $4000. and you got a nice FD for $11,500. Not bad.

Most of time, FD's at $7000 don't even run.

Thanks for the input guys! I can prolly get the price down even lower than that since they had no idea about anything I was telling them about the car. I am going to take it to our local "Rotary" guru and see what he says and if it is something small I will offer like $6,000 for it
