One word. Warranty

Sounds like a bad starter signal. I wouldn't think that it would be the fuel pump since you have been able to drive it when you do get it started, and if it were intermittant you would have power cutting in and out while driving.

The starter signal could be an idication of a bad ignition switch or a wire short from the ignition to the ECU pin no.1C

It could also be fouled plugs.

does your starter crank at all? If it doesnt or sometimes it does,it might be your ignition switch. it's a white switch on the left hand side of the steering column. It's the switch you tap the turbo timer wiring harness to. I burned up two of those already cuz I have too many wires attached to it. I had the same symptom when the switch is going bad. Borrow a switch from your friend and see if it works. good luck.

To check if you getting any sparks from the plug, disconnect the fuel pump relay. Pull the plug wire with the spark plug attached to it to a ground point such as the studs of the shocks. Hold it close to the stud. have some one crank the engine to see if you get any sparks at all. If you get sparks, I would suspect there is something wrong with your fuel system.

rx7kelvin,

First, Check for an intermittent fuel pump relay. You said the pump does not run at all. Does it turn on for a few seconds, then shut off if you just turn the key to on (not try to start it)? If so, the relay probably is working properly.

Second, Check the Circuit Opening Relay. This supplies power to the fuel pump resistor.

Third, check the EGI Main Relay. This provides the connection to the fuel injectors. I had a Mazda 323 with a bad EGI relay that caused the fuel injectors to not fire. Had no fuel in the engine, had spark, timing correct, fuel pressure, etc. You can use an electric sensor to see if you get power to the injectors. Electricians use them, they are like pens that light up when electricity is present. Just hold it near a fuel injection power wire. If the contacts are bad, they can become intermittent.

Fourth, there is a Fuel Thermosensor shown in the diagram. Maybe this is causing your problem. It is located in the rats nest area by the injectors. I assume it is tied into the fuel rail somewhere there. Not sure this is it as it ties back into the factory ECU.
