Need some RX7 advice

I presently own a 1991 Toyota MR2 with a J-Spec Engine. I want something a little different but its very hard to find another car that can live up to what I already have. I wanted something with great handling like my MR2 and still be able to beat most other cars on the road. I think the 3rd Gen RX7 will be able to satisfy my needs. Could some explain all the different models and what years to look out for. Also out of all the 3rd Gens which year and model is the best. What can I expect to pay for a decent 3rd Gen?

Thanks

Up until recently I had an 91' MR2 Turbo myself. The Rx7 will meet your needs, trust me. As far as all your questions I suggest you use the search function on the top right hand side of the screen. www.jayspec7.com has a good list of links, and info on the models as well.

All the 3rd gens are great and you shouldn't look out for any year. Make sure to get a compression test before purchasing an RX-7. It all comes down to the one you want. For example, CYM was only made in '93 and is pretty much impossible to find, because it was the rarest of all RX-7s.

After reviewing many "Newbie" type threads I have noticed that alot of people ask which is better, R-1,2 or Touring. 1st of all is the Bose sound system that great that it would sway someones dicision on what model to get? What exactly is included with this Bose sound system?

I personally think the BOSE wave system sucks. It comes with a tape/CD player, 2 door speakers, a center channel speaker in the middle of the dash, and 4 inch subs in one of the most hideous tubular enclosures in the hatch area. It takes up space but with the cargo cover on it does look cool. I replaced everything with better equipment and have a 12 inch sub in the trunk (the box actually fits between the 4 inch inch subs and looks cool. The 4 inchers do make good bass for what they are but the whole system is dated and wouldn't "buy" a touring model just for that. Only problem with R1s and R2s is they have no sunroof available and their suspension is rough. 95s fixed some of the problems of the earlier years but all models will are great - be careful what car you get - ErnieTs suggestion is good - getting one with a new engine already is a good idea - you never know who had the car before and who trashed it. Your car now should be a hair quicker than a stock RX7 but with a dp or exhaust the RX7 would be quicker - it doesn't take much at all to get these cars wicked.

Call me nostalgic... but something about being an R1 makes it look impractical... hahaha... therefore irresistable.

I have a Touring model and would recomend the R1 or 2. The Bose system really sucks and you have to replace the whole thing, you can't expand on the system. I have heard that some people have tried to and it just makes it sound even worse. The other reason I recomend the R1 are the seats material. They keep you planted a little better than the leather in the Touring. I do not know if that material lasts. I think it is a simulated suede. You may want to find out. I do like having the sun roof though. The R1 also comes with a front and rear air spoiler. I like the look of both.

I honestly don't really care to much about car audio, I am more into performance. So getting a Touring model just to get the Bose system is not really a priority to me. I would rather have the R1 or 2 but I think when it comes down to it I will probably end up getting what ever is available in my area. Because its not everyday you see a FD for sale, or atleast not where I live.
