I wouldn't expect them to. Until I contacted them and started the ball rolling, I doubt they'd rebuilt many FD racks. It's not like it's a common request.

Is there a specific contact person at MavalGear to ask for that is currently familiar with everyone's conversions?

Thanks,
Edgardo

hey mike, when you say how much fluid ot leave, you mean for sending ot get it hard converted, or to do the 'soft' coversion' where you just by pass the pump.

It's not absolutely necessary to keep the rack full of fluid, but it cuts down on noise and keeps the pistons in the rack lubricated so they move smoothly back and forth.

I kept mine full, then connected one end of the recirculation loop, filled it (holding a finger over the second hole) with fluid, connected it as quickly as possible (this is where four hands would come in handy), and then cleaned up the mess.

yes, you just have to buy a new belt since the old one will be too long.

How do I put tension on the belt? Wouldnt I need to make a dead pully for the PS just so I can use the tensioner?

that's right, i forgot the power steering is the unit on top. you could probly run the belt over the old tension pully, but i don't know if that would have any adverse effects on your belt as far as wearing faster. or you could make a new tension pulley. why not keep the power steering if you're keeping the a/c? it doesn't really hurt anything, the only reasons i removed mine are beacasue i was getting rid of the a/c too and wanted to get rid of all of the unnecessary things in the engine bay, plus i am going with an electric water pump and alt relocation.

i heard that you cannot do that because there would be no where for the pressure to go, if you put a loop in it then the prasseure can move back and forth from one side of the rack to the other as you turn the steering wheel.

Hi, can anyone clarify on this? Can i just buy a new belt, and loop the belt over the tension pulley? I cant eliminiate the AC where i am, and my PS leaks all the time. I've seen somewhere in the forum, a picture where the AC was removed but PS kept, and the shorter belt was loop-ed over the tension pulley.

THanks. Joe.

About the FC steering rack, Doesn't the FD have more of a turning radius than the FC. I think the FC's is around 35 to 40 degrees. Im am not sure on that though, and don't know what the FD's specs are. I am just asking this because I have heard people complain about it not being enough on the FC's, but I have never heard anyone complain about the FD's.

Anybody? Or can i just swap the PS pulley with the tension pulley, and loop the belt over the "new" tension pulley?

Thanks

You CAN't just swap the PS pulley because it has no spherical bearing, and you would be asking for problems.

I left the tension pulley and wrapped a 35.5" belt around A/C, idler, and crank.

Also, in my case, I have just capped the 2 main lines to the pump, not looped them. Steering doesn't feel abnormaly heavy. The biggest difference I noticed was when I took my HUGE batt. (~30+ lbs) out and put a new one in my cubby.
Best pic I've got..

Do you have another way to post the image? I can't see any image, even if I cut-and-paste the url.

Hey... thanks for the info. So by u wrapping the belt around the tension pulley, the belt wont slip / be *screwed* / suffer premature wear / etc? Any adverse effects?

Very nice & clean engine bay you got there btw...
