Need some info...

Hiya guys. My auto tranny broke a few months back and my car has been sitting in my garage for 4 months =(. I miss driving it so bad. In the mean time I have been getting parts needed for the auto to manual swap. I finally found some shop that said they will do it, but they have never did it on a rex. =p. The speedshop recommended my to this shop, but the labor is $58 a hour and they say they dont have any idea how many hours of labor it will take. Hehe I dont wanna get screwed over, so im looking for as much information as I can. I know a lot about it, but I was wondering if those people that have done it or mechanics that know about it could email me at JSiv11@hotmail.com because I got some questions. Others that know info about this can post here if they can =). The help is much appreciated. I just cant wait till my 3rd gen is a 5 speed.

I have the following parts atm:
5 speed transmission
Rear differential from 5 speed
Driveshaft
5 speed starter
5 speed main engine wiring harness
Clutch
clutch and master cylinder
Pedals
Shift assembly
Dsah harness ( dont think its needed anyways =p)
Flywheel ( DO any of you guys know if I need a lightweight flywheel with counterweight for this swap to work? Would the stock 5 speed flywheel work for this? I think there was one person i talked to that said that I needed to get a lightweight one with counterweight to make it work.)

Anything im missing? Also about how many hours would u say it would take to do this swap at a shop?

I also heard that u could redo the auto main engine wiring harness to work with 5 speed, but i just thought it would be easier to get a 5 speed harness. I think theres a rotary shop in texas that just redos the auto harness whent hey do the swap. The mechanic that is gonna do the swap asked me to try to get as much info as I can maybe to help things run smoother or maybe someone he can talk to. So email me if u are someone that knows about it so maybe u can hewp =).

Thank you so much guys..

Oh yea

I forgot to say I already had an ECU solution also.
I got a Power FC as my ecu so that will work.

The answers to most of your questions are here:

http://www.exit13b.com/exit13b.com/fd_auto2manual.htm

The guy who wrote that posts here on the Forum as Exit13B, you might want to PM him for more info. He's a bit north from where you are, but you might want to consider taking it to him. I REALLY WOULDN'T trust a shop that has never worked on an FD before, this is a very in depth job.

More auto-5spd swap info can also be found here:

http://beyondtheredline.fd3s.net/owners_5spd.html

and here:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/auto_trans_mod.html (scroll down a bit to see it)

I'm in the process of getting all the stuff together to do mine too. I'm having a lot of stuff done at once to offset the labor costs, it's gonna run me about $10K to do the whole project, but when I'm done the car will be perfect. Here's the list:

Malloy Reman 13B w/ KDR Streetport
5 spd Tranny swap
ACT Clutch
Lightweight Flywheel
Haltech w/ Wiring Harness
Kaaz Rear
4.33 gears

Hopefully I can get everything together (and all the $$) so it can go in over the winter and be ready for next spring.

Best of luck to you on your project.
