Need some feedback on SPEC clutches...

I need a clutch and came across Spec Stage 2 on Rx7 store. What do you guys think abou it? I did some searching and i found some info, but that was before ACT came out.

ACT seems to be more expensive then SPEC and I don't know really the difference between them.

Thanks.

Spec makes some good clutches. I have used them on my cars and have sold many of them.

I run the stage 3, sprung 6 puck. No problems at all. For a 6 puck it is pretty damn streetable. I also got the lightened pressure plate option, where they drill a bunch of holes in it

Fellow St. Louisan,

I just had a Spec Stage II installed in my car this Monday. I have only driven the car from the shop to my house though, about 2-3 miles. First impression is...pedal pressure seems less than stock.

As suggested by Bryan from BNR I sent out my 5000 mile old M2 clutch/flywheel to be modified by SPEC when I decided to make power. They modified the pressure plate and made a new clutch disk and resurfaced my flywheel. I absolutely love it. Pulled a 1.8 60 time first time at the track with it and have had it in for about 5k miles with my new setup. No complaints easy to drive and I have a light flywheel which makes it harder to take off from a light -the car is my dd. I'd highly suggest buying one from the rx7store and the guy from spec told me it should last a long long time ~80k miles easy
I had mine made to hold 550ft pounds of tq

I am thinking about going with the stage 4 that they carry, they are local here and the owner is a old rx-7 guy. A friend of mine has a stage 4 and made 530ish rwhp with it and he drags his car whenever he can, he also dirves his car eveyday.

What do you mean by less then stock? Is it lighter or harder?

Thanks for all replies guys. I really don't want to go with 6puck for now. I'll probably get a stage II.

Yea, my friend and a couple others a I knew that all owned S13's/S14's would use the SPEC clutches because they were cheap and they all said the pedal felt soft and unresponsive.

Amel,

The pedal is lighter or easier to engage than the stock clutch.

Spec

Maybe SPEC worked okay for other cars, but o 240 forum I saw a thread the clutch EXPLODED on the SR20DET. From that pt on everyone stayeda way from SPEC.

I had a spec in my 240. Pedal pressure was extremely soft but it was very streetable and I never had any problems. My roommate has a spec stage 3 in his FD and I hate it. It grips hard but i just don't really like the pedal feel at all. I prefer the ACT S/S in my FD.

Well, the Spec Stage III will hold substantially more torque than the ACT S/S. I am now running the spec and used to have the act, but upgraded due to the new turbos. I miss my act, which was much more streetable, but I know the act with the stock disk would not have held up to the torque of 19 psi on these bad boys.

Hey Rich, for a street driven car with my mods... Is a stage III good choice? I'm planing on going single in about 3-4 months, But it will be daily driven... so I don't know if this 6puck combo is good for street driving. Also does Stage III with 6 puck give you a little harder pedal feel then stock?

Thanks a lot.
