Need Some Advice/Suggestions

I currently own a 93 Black RX-7 basically stock with 35K miles. Only things i have on the car are:

1. Aluminum AST
2. Fluidyne Radiator
3. Greddy Boost Gauge & Turbo Timer
4. HKS Carbon Exhaust

I'm planning on going to law school this coming fall, and i don't know if i should sell the car and buy a YZF R-6 or if i should take the car with me.

My main concerns of taking the car with me is that i won't have a garage to store it in...i won't have any tools to fix the car if any problems were to come up. And i just need a reliable form of transportation. I love the car, so it's not an easy choice.

i figure with a brand new bike it probably won't have any problems that an older car might have.

if you think i should take the car with me, are there any suggestions you could make that would help make my car more reliable in the long run...other than changing the oil and doing regular maintence checks.

the car is running strong right now without any problems. the only problem is that it seems like if i use any 93 octane gas other than Mobile 1, i engine stutters and sometimes stalls when it's idling after 20-30 minutes of driving.

Stay away from mods if you want to keep it reliable. Go with a downpipe, you already have the other mods that are generally looked at when reliability is in mind. Perhaps get a bit of silicone hose the replace the MAP sensor hose that seems to blow off.

It may be a better idea for now to get a cheaper student type of car. Only having a bike is going to suck in the rain and dating etc. (you are in college right ) If you can afford some other cheap mode of getting around and store the car for summer and breaks that would be great. As for Law school, if you sell the car you will have to suffer for a few years but WHO CARES you can get a Ferrari when you get out
Good luck.

haha...thanks donovan...

i'm planning on going arizona or texas...where it's warmer all year round...especially compared to NJ...that's why i thought i bike would work...

i'm planning on getting married before i go to law school...so my fiance will have her car...a jeep...so i won't have the dating problem at least

i was thinking about getting a PFC to replace the stock ECU...you think that'd help reliability at all?

i have an ATR downpipe that's not installed because it has extra holes for an EGT and A/F Gauge...i guess i could just plug them up if i really wanted to install it...

i just hope law school pays off ...but the truth is lawyers don't get paid much money...so much for the Ferarri

Since you can't decide for yourself, why don't you just flip a coin, or let your fiance decide for you?

What lawers are you thinking of?? My Dad's Lawer was recently paid $5000 for about two hours of work:O I guess it depends on what kind of law you get into.
You should be a dentist if you want bucks, I have a friend that pulls $20-25 a flipping month with his practice and he's 30 years old. I kinda hate him

yea, get rid of the pre-cat. but don't think you need a PFC. otherwise keep it stock.

The reason i've been thinking of getting the PFC is because my engine has been stuttering a lot...when i'm not on the gas, the idle will bounce up and down while backfiring at the same time. i was hoping maybe by getting a PFC it would smooth out the idle...

anyone have the same experience? i know rotaryextreme.com is doing a group buy on the PFC, so i was wondering if it would solve some of my idling problems.

i would try to figure out what is causing the idle problem first instead of getting the pfc. probably cheaper.

Well, it's possible the PFC would "inadvertently" fix the problem. However, stock FD's don't have that kind of problem so you can probably take care of it without upgrading your ECU.

IMO, if you want to keep the care reliable, add the downpipe and keep everything else as it currently is...

Take a look in the manual for troubleshooting idle problems or just search the forum. There are many causes for idle problems all the way from vacuum leaks, tps problems, clutch switches, to exhaust leaks..
