Need To Quite Down My 3rd Gen

I Need To Quite Down My 3rd Gen. Looking For Suggestions From The Cat Back To Muffler. I Currently Have A Mid Pipe And Peter Farrell Exhaust. Noise Was Ok For The Last Few Years, But Time To Quite It Down. It's Loud To The Point That I Don't Feel Comfortable Driving The Vehicle Any More. Any Suggestions Will Be Appreciated.

the racing beat sigle has worked for me. i used to have the same problem with an apex'i N1. it was driving me crazy with the loud noise. the car lost a bit of power but is a lot more quiet.

My Racing Beat duals quieted things down a bit, but if you want considerable noise reduction you'll need to remove your midpipe and exchange it with something like a high-flow cat.

Weld a Magnaflow straight-through muffler into the midpipe and get a newer condition cat-back. A good choice would be the Racing Beat.

Isn't the Racing Beat very restrictive? It does have a great tone.

Very restrictive, no. It's got very good flow. Not as much as a canister, but it's much closer to other aftermarket mufflers than it is to the stock muffler.

Sarge, it would be cool if you could trim that signature into something not so tall - just putting a few to a line would do it.

What kind of mufflers do you guys use in the midpipe? I was thinking a magnaflow like this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
but really don't know what kind of sound to expect. I don't want to lose that rotary pitch though. Anyone have soundclips?
BTW I also have 3" dp, mp and a PFS cb it sounds mean as hell, but I would like to hear the turbos a little more.

^^yup made a huge difference in bringing that noise down.

Magnaflow resonated MP + Racing beat duals = heaven. No freeway droning and you can actually drive next to a cop and he wont even look at you twice

SMB Dual Tip - it's quite a lot quieter than the RB Dual. Been delighted with it on my car, haven't dyno'd it since changing the exhaust so stuck with the butt dyno which says no large change in bhp.

SMB? never heard of them. Are they specific to your country?

SMB are australian - http://www.smb.net.au/ But their parts have been sold around the world. They are actually a part of Walker exhausts (who do a lot of OEM work).

Very, very good quality - very, very good tone.

Their high-flow metal core catalyser has been featured in threads on several occasions. I have one on my car, sans airpump, and I'm extremely happy with it. Revolutionised the shitty tone of my kakimoto exhaust. Power levels seem to be very close to MP gains.

as others have said...I went from a open wg t78 w/pettit mp and jic titanium (possibly the loudest 3inch combo around) to plummed wg w/ borla xr1 muffler in mp and the racing beat duals The car is so damn quiet/stealthy and I love it...I would get pulled almost anytime I drovethe car with other setup and now I never even get a second look! Go with the borla or magnaflow muffler and rb catback and you WILL be pleased.

i have the bonez high flow cat and apexi n1 titanium, its pretty loud with open WG, and i was wondering if putting two borla or 1-2 magnaflow mufflers in there would restrict it too much. I dont really care too much about all out power anymore, i just enjoy driving the car and dont want to have to worry about attracting every cop in a 5 mile radius when i floor it lol.

options:
2 borla + bonez cat + apexi titanium (i think this would do the trick but i need the opinions of people that added just a borla and could tell me what to expect)
1-2 magnaflow + bonez cat + apexi titanium

either way im probably going to plumb the WG into the DP, so restriction is kindof holding me back, what do you guys think?

PS: i want to keep the apexi muffler, so i gotta do all this muffling behind it. THX

Ditch the Apexi exhaust. It will be 10x easier and also cheaper than trying to do what you are proposing. I doubt there would be room for it anyway and you would suffer from flow issues as well.

Additionally, having an open wastegate on a street car is just.....silly IMO. It's hearing damage inducing loud and there's no point to it. Just replumbing the wastegate would help your noise levels out immensely.

yeah i know but i was wondering if i threw one of the magnaflow mufflers in and plumbed the wastegate, would it be substantially quieter? (not racing beat quiet but you know what i mean "comparitavely")
i like the apexi exhaust, it doesnt sound like the other N1's, its weird, its much cleaner sounding although that could have something to do with the cat, but im speaking from having a HKS hi-power on the car for almost a year (one of the cleanest sounding canister mufflers out there)

i'm pretty much set on getting the biggest magnaflow XL turbo muffler i can fit in-line with the cat, and then I need to put a flex pipe into my DP and also have my turbo to downpipe flange re-welded, and at the same time cut the end section of pipe at the catback and rotate it so its not so low and it wont point up so much (clearance for my diffuser)

i'm gonna do it all at once to save labor, but I'll share what my results are, as always

wow taking a look under the car, and it looks pretty damn cramped, how do you guys fit these mufflers in there? i guess you would have to take out the cat, but i have my own plans, i plan on moving the cat back about 18 inches down, and putting the muffler where the cat was. Has anyone done this? is there an issue anyone encountered with heat or clearance?

thx again guys

like I said I had an open wg and straight mp with jic titanium and its was very LOUD...i plummed the wg back in and put 1 borla zr-1 muffler into the mp and kept the jic originally and it still made a HUGE difference...I then added the rb duals to return to a stock appearance rather than having some huge canister in the rear to attract attn. (even though it was substantially quieter). You simply need to add 1 muffler into the mp and have the wg plumbed back in and I think you will be happy...but as rynberg stated changing the cb would help even more...
