i used to use the pettits 4oz bottle and reused it but i ended up losing it, i was using Idemitsu and it has its own measuring in the back so i was using that, but now that i ran out im thinking of going with a different brand, just gotta figure out which

If you're smart, you don't. Idemitsu recommends 1/2 oz per gallon and that's what I've been running for five years. Anything more is just asking to foul your plugs and/or throwing your money away. The OMP should also be deleted (or retrofitted to operate with two stroke oil) because four stroke oils are not designed to burn in the combusiton chamber.

I'll let the pro's chime in but from what I've seen on here is 1oz per gallon are people with no omp, and are tracking their car fequently.

I use 1oz per gallon. But is a race engine, no OMP. No smoking or fouled plugs here

During break-in I used 2oz per gallon. Again, no fouled plugs and very little smoke if any.

High rpm break-up is another consequence of running too much oil in the gas, plus the fact you are effectively leaning out the AFR. For a race engine, ok, but it's not needed on the street. Idemitsu told me there are racers who run 1/4 oz/gal with no problem, the tiny apex seals don't need much oil, it's not like a two stroke where the oil is lubricating the entire bottom end.

Protek sells those 4oz bottles that is required for every fillup. So you figure we have a 20 gallon tank and just do the math.

I just do 1/2 oz per gallon. With royal purple premix.

OH Premix

1oz. per gallon is for a race engine or one w/o OMP. I mix min 1oz. per gallon, plugs are fine, no smoke. I use Redline 2-cycle oil though. I wouldnt run less w/my setup thats for sure. Pettit also recommends 1oz. per gallon w/o OMP.

One should use oil ratios when discussing this. I've noticed that different manufactures have varying oil/gal of gas amounts to equate to the same ratios. For example: Amsoil says to use 1.3 oz of oil/gal of gas for a 100:1 ratio. This does equate mathematically. As for Shell Nautilus, they say to use 1.5 oz of oil/gal of gas for a 100:1 ratio. This equates to 85:1 ratio mathematically. I suspect this could be due to the lubrication properties of each manufacturers oil. Please chime in with your thoughts on this.

FYI-- 128 oz = 1gal for a ratio of 100:1 => so 1.28 oz/gal yields 100:1 ratio.

Simple - I use 2 stroke which already has markings on the bottle, and a long, narrow funnel to pour it in. I also keep everything in the bin behind my seat, along with a rag to wipe the funnel off with. I typically premix .5 oz per gallon as well.

Buy a lucas's fuel treatment bottle. It holds a bit over 5oz but the good thing is that the neck is slim enough to open the gas flappy. No need to "pour" it in carefully. Just dump it in and 5 seconds later it is empty.

Pettitracing.com

From what I have heard, it is 2 stroke oil from the marine industry that is relabeled as their own "Protek-R"

I use to use it exclusively BUT it can get costly. I believe the last time I bought a gallon it cost me $50... I now just get 2 stroke from Wal-mart or PepBoys at $11 a gallon...

Thanks. I forgot about that site lol

Yeah a lot of the stuff on that site is expensive but quality seems to be top notch.

They recommend 4oz per tank of fuel which is 3 distributions per bottle @ 5 bucks. Not bad. Unless you use a higher mix.

I might just get a couple of bottles and try it out.

That's what I use exclusively. Extra 1.60 per fill up... what's that, an extra .09 a gallon? Not bad IMO.

I am running 1 oz per gallon with NO omp. I do however run my FD on the 1/4 mile track about twice a month so I don't mind being a bit heavy with the mix..

I don't see the reason to pay extra $$$$ just cause it's from Pettit...
I was brain washed by Pettit when I first got my FD but as I did more research and learned a little more, I wised up and saved money...

2 stroke oil is 2 stroke oil.... NO need to pay $5 for a 12oz bottle when you can get a gallon for as little as $11 ...

L8R

ps...( just saw the website & the bottles are now 12 oz... they use to be 4oz back when I was buying them...)

Makes sense. Oil is oil.

But i think this matters just a tad bit more than talking about using syn oil vs another syn oil.

Because this is actually burning off thoroughly with your gas.

Idk, i was looking at pettit's site and they showed the housing wear with and without protek. Could be marketing hype i guess.

Im using royal purple 2 cycle but the bottle is almost up, thats why i bumped this thread.

What brand are you using??

I am using Super Tech from Wal-Mart or Mag1 from Pep Boys auto parts.
It all depends were I'm at when I need some... There was a thread a while back were one of the more experienced forum members discussed this very subject and he was using the Super Tech from Wal-Mart as well..

I just go by the ratings of the 2 stroke oil itself. The newest requirements is TC-W3 so thats what I get cause it burns cleaner with less smoke...

Second, the hot premixes historically are protek, idemitsu, and royal purple. I use whatever good 2 stroke synth I have around in 1 gallon containers. I use about 6 ozs per tank. I've always used Redline 20-50 ad am thinking about switching to Redline's AllSport 2 stroke racing oil to keep it all Redline. I think Redline has been my oil since the mid 90's when people were still arguing synth vs dino. (Hopefully that argument has been settled and Redline has always been my friend. )

Gordon
Why YES... YES we are the only ones NOT watching this game...

I personally use Royal Purple 20-50 in my motor because I can get them at a decent price thru a friend of mine...

As for the 2 stroke, I use whatever is available. I use to only buy synth 2 stroke BUT since I was daily driving my FD for the first 8 months of ownership( about 100 miles a day) , it became pricey so I switched to regular 2 stroke and have experienced no change in performance or plug fouling.

Like someone else mentioned earlier these have been the perfect bottle for my needs.

It's small enough to fit into the bins, big enough to hold several ounces, the neck is long enough to fit in the gas tank and you can measure out your ounces 8-) I just pill the sticker off the container so no one confuses it and just fill it up with 2 cycle. Obviously pour the Sta-bil into another container before you pour you 2 cycle in
