SC Need info on engine swap!

Ok I have a mainly stock 30,000 mile RX7, which is my personal vehicle. Today, I traded in at my dealership a seriously built single turbo Rx7 with nearly close to 500 horsepower!!!! The engine has about 800 miles and was done by Petit racing in Fl. I have the reciept to back it up. Everything was done right! Big turbo, big intercooler, just the best of everything!! Clutch and trans are upgraded too. Over all, the built car is in just average condition, but MY car is in the wrapper and like new!! But after driving the 500 hp car, I am SERIOUSLY considering doing a complete engine and tranny swap. I would then have my low mileage slick RX7 fast as a mother!! How much would I expect to pay to have someone do a complete swap?? How many hours involved etc..... I would just take the built motor and put it in my car and then take my stock motor and reinstall it in that car. Input is appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Its a ton of work i've done it to my car tho, I removed the engine, tranny and harness all as one, unplugged harness from comp. did it on both cars but only installed on 1, I think I had about 21-22 hours into it, mind you 1 of the cars was a half cut so was a little easier, but I had to remove dashes and wiring harnesses because I put a series 8 in my series 6. I'm not sure what shop rates are like down there but at my shop its 95/hr.

Hmmmm, was hoping it wasn't terribly difficult. I have a friend that put an LS1 in an RX7 and is very good with these types of projects. I am going to consult with him to see what we can do. Thanks for the info.

I'd just buy the whole car and drive it as is.

I agree when it's all said and done 20 hours per vehicle or approx 2k so the total would be 4k. Also if things don't go smoothly and they rarely do it could be more like 5 or 6k.

However the nice clean stock car is worth more stock so not only are you out 4k but you devalued a nice car.

I'd suggest spending 4k on the single turbo car and leaving the stock one alone.

I'd imagine if everything went smoothly around 5-6k as others have stated. Honestly though a mint third Gen is hard to find, seems like a waste to turn it into some sort of highway car when the FD has so many other qualities that don't really shine through at that power level.

I would leave the 30k one alone and just buy the one you just got in trade. Yo get the best of both worlds.

Flame on!!!

You wouldn't have a "low milage 7"... You'd have a low milage 7 frame with a souped up engine.

How much are they asking? Same as an already built motor? Why not just have a "hot car" and a stock car.

Anyway, why not just get a cherry picker and swap the engine yourself? Takes a couple of hours at best.

Well, if I do a swap, I found a very experienced and reputable place to do a turn key job for 4k. That is including EVERYTHING from the cluth assembly forward and including the fuel pump, computer and doing the front bumper mod to accomadate the bigger intercooler. So if I kept the single turbo car AND spent 4k, I would have 16500 tied up since I have 12500 in the single turbo car. On the other hand, I spend the 4k and then sell the other car for probably 15k and I have so much less money tied up. Not to mention, my 30,000 mile car is not completely stock now anyways. It has been lowered, has 19's on it, cold air kit, BOV, exhuast and larger intercooler. So for me, I would rather have ONE slick car that is SO fast, versus having all that money tied up in 2 cars. I think I am going for it!!!!!

Well for 4g's how would you possibly EVER get a built, single turbo RX7, with a brand new top to bottom BUILT Petit racing motor?? You can't..... I have close to 10k in reciepts for all the work that has been done, so for 4k it sounds like a bargain to me. Thanks for the opinion though!
