need help worried about engine!!!

when I first bought my car it had a greddy profec b installed. on the lowest boost setting it pushed 7 lbs.
then as i started driving it more it crept up to 9 lbs not too worried but alarmed. then tonight everything was running great but my friend had a flat tire so i pulled over to help him out. As I got ready to merge i was on the highway so i had to accelerate pretty fast i took it to 6500 in both 1st and 2nd then let off and drove casually. we stopped and fixed the hole at the nearst gas station. i started it and drove away keeping it below 3000 rpm. as i was merging on to the highway i gave it a little gas. Then i relized something was wrong it didn't pull as hard worried i checked my boost gauge it said i was running 11 lbs of boost but it wasnt pulling as hard as when it was running 9 lbs of boost. does anyone have any opinions on this??? anything would help thanks a lot,
ouch

I wouldn't sweat it, if your worried that your engine popped cuz of 11psi, you can pretty much stop worrying. I highly doubt that 11psi did anything.

BTW: how are you measuring boost?

also what kinda mods do you got and what rpm where you at? our FD's have no torque down low in the rpm range and even when you start climbing, its not really that much...

Temp and heatsoak also have to do with it, also, your right in the range for the infamous 3k hesitation. It could be a fuel problem or something else which could have been just a freak of nature thing which could just fix itself.

I think that you were just too low in the rpm range, kinda like when your going up a hill in 3rd and your not high enuf in the rpms, so the boost shoots up but your not going anywhere. It's a kinda surge (you went over the surge liine) and it ain't that good for your engine/turbo. If you want instant response all the time... get a V-8

Lastly, I would not really depend on the *** dyno, it is always a little off

Do you have a boost gauge? what vacuum are you pulling at idle? Also, how does the motor behave at idle? is it shaking and making some crazy noises? Need more details

i have a autometer boost gauge my vaccum is at 11 at idle, it doesn't really shake maybe a slight vibration now and then. it makes a kinda weird noise at idle not sure if its normal or not its coming from inside the engine you can hear it the exhaust as well it kinda sounds like low pitch rumbling noise. and last night it didn't want to idle below 1000 rpm it was a real cold night and i live in denver i dont know if alttitude has anything to do with it. I not worried about the 11 lb boost blowing the engine right now what im worried about is that its not pullings as hard at 11 as it did at 9 and boost keeps creeping up and it stays constant. its not like it goes to 11 and goes back down it went to 11 and doesnt want to go back down. I have an intake catback exhaust greddy profec b boost controller. i tested it on a flat area so hills weren't an issue. thanks for the help guys

Ouch is right. 11 inches of Mercury at idle is horrible and definitely not right. Your motor may still be fine, but something is definitely off. i'd get a compression check asap to put your mind at ease. until then, I would not drive the car sparingly and not boost it.

I just noticed that you're in Denver. Suganuma goes to the AF academy and should be able to help you. He's pulled his own motor and knows quite a bit about the FDs. Shoot him a PM, and hopefully after the holidays you guys can meet up. It sounds like you need someone to check the car over in person.....sometimes forum help isn't enough.

I'm confused when you said it went to 11psi and didn't stop. Do yo mean the boost kept on going higher as in 12psi, 13psi and higher? or did it just stay at 11psi. If it went higher, than that = bad. But 11psi of boost is nothign to worry too much about. I WOULD worry however that in denver now, the weather is cold, the air is dense, thus 10psi in denver is a lot more dense cold air than 10psi is here in northern california. Check your hoses etc. Then you can do teh poor mans cmopresssion test. Just pull the plugs (one in each housing) and listen.

No problem man. You might want to try posting in the mountain/midwest rx7 forum (assuming that's CO) to meet up with some guys that can help.
