Exclamation Need help with my RX7 in Pakistan!!

Hello guys,

Im new to this forum.

I have an RX7, model 1996, JDM, imported from japan.

Following is my modlist and I would like to get a suitable PowerFC Map for my application. I have the Datalogit to upload the map and make changes if necessary.

- Brand new Pettit Racing Engine with 3mm apex seals (street ported)
- Stock twin turbos from a 1998 RX7
- Apexi Power FC
- Apexi AVC-R Boost Controller
- Knightsports Downpipe
- Greddy Catback Exhaust
- Apexi Radiator
- Re-Amamiya Intercooler Piping Kit
- HKS Intakes
- De-Cat
- 850cc primary injectors and 1300cc secondary injectors
- Thermostat Valve
- Air/Water Seperator Unit from Pettit Racing

Now everything is intalled and im getting the engine run-in...

The octane level here in Pakistan is 96 so please kindly help me out and advise me how much boost can I run safely (without knocking) and what timing can I give?

If anyone has a similar setup and can advise/send me their map, I'll be more than obliged.

We DONT have a dyno here in Pakistan.

Thanks,

Raza.

96 in the European RON rating system, which I assume Pakistan uses, is equiveillant to 92 in the US PON rating system. Just FYI.

with a proper tune, up to 15PSI, depending on how long you want the stock twins to last.

For a downloadable tune, check the PowerFC subsection under the Engine Management section, but be aware that these cars are very picky when modified. I'd try to study as much as possible and tune as safe as possible, assuming you don't have terribly talented rotary tuners in your country.

well i checked through a friend here in Shell Pakistan, and he said we have octane level which is equivalent to the US rating...so i think it wud be 96 octane, same as the US..

I have another daily driven Supra JZA80 with a PT67, running 26 psi with 15 degrees timing...so i think if that car doesnt knock...then our fuel shouldnt be that bad...btw the jza80 has the ap engineering power-fc PRO...

thanks for your input...

yeah im planning to run 12 psi for daily driver and around 15 psi if there is some race or anything...

yeah i know these cars are quite picky...im quite fimiliar with piston engines and so is my tuner friend...as we have good supras and evos running high boost here in karachi...my tuner has a fairly good amount of knowledge about the rotaries but we are not much talented with the power fc...i just bought this FD shell from a friend and want to build it up as a smooth daily driver...that is why i bought a brand new engine from Pettit with everything new inside it...

ill be very glad if you can link me to some reliable maps so that i can download them..

i want this car to be trouble free and smooth...because this car wont be racing as i have the jza80 supra to race...

thanks!

Just a word of warning; I'd be conservative with the boost if you're going to be copying someone else's map. Rotaries are *nothing* like 2JZs, which are practically indestructible hehe. Even the smallest mistakes can lead to blown engines on FDs, so be careful.

You may have some luck here: https://www.rx7club.com/power-fc-forum-47/. If that doesn't work, I can get your PFC tuned for your mods (conservatively of course), but the tuner would charge for it.

Oh and are you running the stock IC on that setup? Cuz it looks like that's the one thing you'd want but are missing (you only mentioned RE pipes, but no RE IC).

Anyway, mabrook on the car, and lemme know if I can help ya out w/ any parts, be they OEM, aftermarket, or rare JDM

Salam Ramy,

Yeah i know i have both extremes with me now...the 2jz and the 13b-rew..

yes i plan to run conservative boost in the beginning...can you give me an idea how much timing should i run "on boost" with this 96 octane fuel?
anyways, how much would the tuner charge? please let me have some idea...

also i got two maps from Steve Kan (through Pettit Racing) with the engine...so once im done with the run-in, i will check those maps as well...

yeah i have the stock IC at the moment...surely ill contact you once i have funds to upgrade... can you source items from yahoo auction japan too?

thanks,

Raza.

Haha...you can say that again But seriously, if you do it right, and play it smart, you should have a very reliable car (minus the fact that it's 12+ years old of course hehe).

I'm not the best person to ask about tuning; that's best left to the actual tuners.

anyways, how much would the tuner charge? please let me have some idea...

That's funny...because that's the tuner I was thinking of! I'm friends w/ Steve And I personally believe him to be an EXCELLENT tuner, so I think you're already in good hands. The maps you got...are they base (stock) maps or maps for your mods/setup? If they're for your mods, try the maps out, keeping an eye on injector duty cycle and knock, and in sha'a Allah you should be fine.

Oh and just to make sure this point is crystal clear...you've removed the cat, and I assume that means you're running a midpipe. Ppl tend to see boost creep using the stock twins with a midpipe. So when it's cold out, ease off the gas a bit. Take it easy. You're more likely to overboost and run lean in the cold. The only solution is either a) run a high flow cat, or b) have the wastegate (internal on the stock turbos) ported. You have a boost controller, that's good, but it's not 100%. So please keep that in mind.

yeah i have the stock IC at the moment...surely ill contact you once i have funds to upgrade...
Hehe no problem

can you source items from yahoo auction japan too?
Absolutely And I can ship 'em directly to you too!

thanks,

Raza.
My pleasure
