Need help-maybe clutch/slave cylinder?
I was driving home from school on friday and i encountered a problem with my fd. The clutch acted like it wanted to stick at the floor a little bit but it was fine for about 3-4 miles. Then when i stopped at a redlight the car did not want to go into first gear but it did after a little force. After that it didnt want to shift into any gears but i made it home. When you start the car it WILL NOT go into any gear. If you start it in first, you can feel vibration in the clutch pedal while sitting still and if you move the car the entire car shakes. I was hoping it would be a slave cylinder issue but i have pedal pressure so im kinda unsure. The clutch should not be an issue because its a 7000 mile old act street/strip. If anybody could lead me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks-Brad

Yeah make sure it isn't leaking from the clutch line. I had a very similar experience, clutch pedal would stick to the floor and I would have to pump it to build pressure and it was hard to shift into gear. I bought a new master and slave cylinder and some SS clutch lines, it turned out I just need the lines so find out first if there is a leak because you will probably save yourself some money.

I had the same problem and it ended up being my pilot bearing seized, I bought a new slave and that didn't work. I also bought a new Act 6 puck kit, thinking my Centerforce pressure plate was shot. Once we dropped the tranny we found the pilot bearing problem. So I installed the new kit since I had it. Then a month later my clutch master cylinder failed on me, after I installed a new one all problems are gone.

There's one more possibility. You could have broken your clutch fork. It gave me the same symptoms yours did, and it usually happens when you use upgraded heavy duty clutches. Just make sure you replace it w/ a NEW clutch fork, not an old one, because Mazda now makes an upgraded stronger clutch fork. $65 from Malloy, but a bitch to get to (labor). Oh and my pilot bearing was bad too at the time, had to change 'em both. Changed the slave while I was at it.

well i think i have the same problem that fd-newbie had. I took off the inspection plate and while my dad pumped the clutch the fork broke the rest of the way and fell out on me. I guess its time to drop the tranny and i guess fix the 5th gear syncro too while its out.

Sorry for being right Sux, huh? If I may:
1) Get a NEW upgraded clutch fork from Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda (1-888-533-3400)
2) Make sure you don't have anything bent, any leaking seals/O-rings etc, cuz I did
3) If you ever had the plans to install a lightened flywheel, this is the time
4) 5th gear sychro is def a good idea
5) But while you're at it, check the sensors on the tranny. I had a couple that were almost trashed. Might as well change 'em (or repair them if possible) at this point
Good luck

BTW, the clutch fork is $70 or so - just got a quote on one today for a customer.
