NEED HELP!!! im LOSING

alright heres the deal. i just bought about a month ago a 1993 rx7 with a rebuilt motor, new clutch, body kit and hks exhaust. now heres my problem....i took it to the dyno (of course after the motor was broken in) and it came out to 175!! at the wheels!!! for a HONDA thats fast but i drive a Fing 7! oh and 160ft/lbs of torque. alright i checked most of the lines the best of my ability and i couldnt seem to find a leak...now u say do i have a boost gauge at all...no not yet...im not sure if there is a boost leak somewhere but hell i lost to a v6 maxima just screwing around it hurt very deep....i have pictures if anyone wants to see on my phone i can upload them of what it looks like....also if you were at hot import nights in cleveland i was there in the CYM.

Please maintain your car....175 rwhp is only a 5 psi or so of boost on a healthy car. Get a boost gauge! No one here can help you until you help yourself!

how is your bodykit relevant to the dyno? and refrain from racing anyone til you figure out what is wrong with your car..... you dont want to make a small problem turn into a huge one

To piggyback on what Rynberg and CPMartin said, you need to park your car until you figure out what's wrong. You have no IDEA how expensive a problem you ignore can become on these cars. We're talking in the THOUSANDS of dollars. It sounds like you have a problem with your turbos making full boost. But it could be a whole list of other problems as well. That's just a shot in the dark. Get a boost gauge, report back what the pattern you're getting is, and that's gonna be a start.

Again, STAY OFF driving the car. If you have a real bad boost leak, you could be destroying your turbos as we speak. It's bad enough you DYNOED the car in this condition. You could literally be making your turbos spin thousands upon thousands of rpm higher than what they're meant to spin, simply because they're trying to generate boost that's being vented in a leak somewhere else (one possible scenario). You'll destroy the turbos VERY quickly. So don't be racing - let alone driving the thing until you figure out your problem. Either that, or you're looking to paying close to what you bought the car for in repairs. Really.

You have to understand that the bulk of our power comes from the forced induction, so you obviosly have a boost problem. Get a good boost guage, and figure out what the turbos are doing and at what RPM.

Like cmartinp said, don't race anybody.............people are going to get the wrong ideas about the FD's capabilities.

if your boost is ok once you get that boost gauge, i'd probably look at the precat next, as the engine bay looked bone stock, assuming this is the car I think it is. The only CYM I saw was a resprayed touring with a veilside kit.

If once you've checked the boost levels, and you see ~5 psi, the first thing to check is the double-throttle system. If they are not opening, you will be limited to about 5 psi of boost, which would be about 175-180 rwhp.

Check and make sure the turbos are still on the car. 2nd gen na makes 160 hp so 175hp is about what you would make with no turbo. Im guessing you bought this car without test driving it first. Loosing to a maxima is a shame, I would burry my head in the sand like an ostrage and sell my car if i were you.

Why dont you just go to the Rx7 store? You are in the same city! Have someone look at it that knows about these cars.

Dude you need some sort of boost guage before you even try to diagnose this type of problem. Do you hear anytype of whoosing noise under boost?

I met you last month in the Hooter's parking lot on E. Main St. and told you, or your friend, that I worked at the RX7Store. I also recommended you get a boost guage on it ASAP.

The accordian IC piping and rubber couplers are notorious for splitting after 13 years of baking in the engine bay and from the internal pressure. I think someone said you had a vacuum hose job done, but it is still within the realm of possibilities that somethings loose, split, or off completely. The others possibilities range from solenoid failure, to actuator failure. That leaves about 75 possibilites.........

As recommended earlier in this thread, DO NOT boost the car until you at least get a boost guage to see what is happening with the boost pressure. You will smoke the turbos very quickly.

Feel free to call me at 771-8946
Mike

That's the problem... all these uninformed people come online and ask for help with the SAME question, and the SAME problem. Not knowing anything about one's own 7, and then putting on a bodykit and then racing it for that matter? Then suddenly when there's something wrong, they come crying to the forum? THAT'S WHY regulars and experienced folks here are getting frustrated. Frustrated because newbies who come on and ask for help don't have the self-responsibility to help themselves first, research their cars first, and learn about their cars first, do the maintenance, reliability stuff BEFORE actually acting like a dumb *** and racing other cars. Geesh... THAT'S WHY you get responses like that. Dumb questions get old.

Well If It Pisses People So Much That A Newbie Is Asking Questions, Then Why Are They Going Through The Bother Of Typing A Saft Comment In The First Place? Why Not Just Ignore The Newbie If They **** You Off So Much With Questions? Someone Will Take The Time To Answer Their Question Eventually. Its Not A Good Start When You Post Your First Ever Question For Someone To Make You Look 1 Inch Tall With A Shitty Comment. All You Need To Say Is "search", Or You Could Just Ignore Them..simple!..most People Will Try And Guide Each Other, But Some Just Try To Bully/intimidate Others. Thats The Vibe I`m Getting Anyway.

Easy there mate, I recieved the same fonging when I started in the forum too. Sometimes, a quick spot of witty banter helps keep moral up. For example, I don't think you're truly upset about the blinker fluid comment, I think you're mad that in 1776 we kicked ya'lls @$$

True... I guess the overall goal is to help newbies get experienced, more knowledgeable about their cars, etc... right? But you know as well as I do, that there are "newbies" who come in here with the right frame of mind. Responsible, searches first, doesn't just buy a car without test driving it, doesn't just race without doing all reliability mods, etc etc... but there ARE folks out there who are the complete opposite.... irresponsible folks who are completely opposite of the previously mentioned. THOSE are the folks that tick this forum off. Something in the line of, "Hey, which bodykit should I get" or "How do you drop-clutch off the line to beat this guy in Civic?" all without knowing what a rotary is, or a dp, or a boost gauge, etc... it downgrades our 7's and puts our cars in a dim light. You are right though, in the fact that maybe we could be more politically correct in how we "relay" that information
