Need help identifying two wires from the harness

OK.... I'm finishing up my motor so I can drop it back in, but I have a slight problem.

First is that I can't figure out what this yellow wire in the picture goes to.....

Second is that the wire on the front of the water pump (I'm assuming it is the stock temperature sender) was broken during disassembly and now I can't find where the wire splices into the harness. I plan on installing an aftermarket water temperature gauge anyway, but I'm assuming I need the stock one still or the computer might freak out. I'm not too sure, that's why I'm asking before I go through the trouble of tracing that wire and trying to find it in the wiring harness mess that is grouped into the rats nest.

Beyond that, everything is ready to go. Just need to put these two wires wherever it is they go and I'm all done and ready to drop it back in.

Pics are below

rather than the coolant temp sensor (which is on the other side of the waterpump) this is a coolant level sensor that connects to the coolant buzzer of death.

i think you've actually found both ends of that... those broken wire and the coolant level line i beleive go together... that is around the right location for those wires to come from in the harness (which i am basing it on as my car is miles away right now).

Well the weird thing is that the one line is yellow, and the broken wire from the coolant level sensor is brown. I also noticed the yellow wire has a strange coupler on the end of it, like it slids over something.

I'm pretty sure there is a stub somewhere else that i need to find on the harness and run a wire from the front of the water pump to that, or if it is possible to find a pin diagram I could always just tap the wire farther down so I'm not digging through the rats nest and mess around that area.

But the yellow one has me stumped....

Oh and also, so I do need the coolant level sensor hooked up then correct? What would happen if I don't connect it, will I get the coolant level light on the dash? Any other negative sides to leave it un hooked if I can't find the wire it mates to?

Thanks

if you leave it unhooked you are going to have a constant and very loud buzzing.
there is normally a single connector on that wire which is likely why you have the coupler on it as it would connect to the other side (which has broken off) to your filler neck.

yellow? brown? whats a shade of colour between friends?
i'm 99% sure that those go together... else you'd have a white connecter or two chilling out on top of your water pump not plugged into anything. seriously, that is in EXACTLY the right place to be the coolant level sensor line and most other lines in the harness have a 12v and switched ground feed - single lines are only really sensors.

trust me, thats it.
if anyone comes round to prove me wrong, i'll eat my words and edit this post.

meantime, let me check my wiring diagrams!

So there shoudl be a connector between it? Do you think I can just soldier the two wires together and be done with it?

alright, coolant temp sensor line is brown/white...
coolant thermoswitch line is yellow...
water temp sensor is yellow/white...

i may need to eat my words... check the plug into the thermoswitch on the rear of the water pump... if that isn't missing a line, my money is still on the coolant level sensor.

god, i'm confusing myself now!
you'll be hunting another line in the harness if it isn't the level sensor... cause that buzzing is BAD!

course, you could disconnect the buzzer... thats a search for another thread!

OK you were correct, the yellow wire goes into the temp sensor. Now I need to find a pin diagram and and I'll probably have to soldier the connection down the harness, there is no way I can find where it broke off of the harness, and even if I could, I'd have ot unhook the rats nest all over again to put it back. I'll just run a new wire back towards the end of the harness where it goes into the firewall....

Anyone have a pin diagram so I can figure out what wire it is by OHMing it? Thanks

Ahhh I see now. I hate wiring

I have to figure out how I'm going to make these connections downstream now, as there is no way to get to the nubs left behind by the ripped wires.

I OHMed the pin connectors and found which wire some of these go to, this is going to be a mess. Thanks for all your help

hmm....well I'm in a bit of trouble. I can't soldier the connections at the nubs, and I can no longer OHM the wires as the nubs completely fell off when I tried to soldier. LOL

Bascially, I'm going to need to figure out which wire is which from the pin connector diagrams and run a totally new wire to each of these three things.

This really sucks, I should have just bought a new harness. If they weren't so expensive I would have.
