I am replacing the air intake thermosensor on my 94. Can someone point me in the right direction? What page and in what manual can I get the best info on what the hell I am doing. Thanks

Hi. I am no expert, but I did this about 4 months ago.

************PLEASE MAKE SURE SOMEBODY WITH MUCH MORE EXPERTISE AND ABILITY THAN ME CHECKS THIS AND CONFIRMS I DIDN'T PUT DOWN ANYTHING WRONG OR MISSED ANYTHING******

I did ask around, as I didn't want to remove the UIM, but -although somebody apparently was able to get at it with a bent wrench- I had to give up the idea and do it the hard (or right, you choose) way.

The thermosensor (I have a 93, but I believe it shouldn't make a difference) is located on the underside of the UIM (upper intake manifold). You need to:
1) remove the intake elbow
2) remove or loosen the throttle cable, remove the plug (can't remember into what) between the firewall and the UIM
3) remove all the bolts that hold the manifold in place
4) remove all the vacuum hoses
5) remove the coolant hoses into the manifold
6) lift the UIM, make sure you don't snap the wires of the plug that goes into the thermosensor
7) remove the thermosensor
8) install new thermosensor
9) reinstall all that in inverse order

A few notes: watch the gaskets as you remove the elbow and as you separate the UIM from the LIM. You might need to replace with new ones; there should be an "o-ring" type between the TB and the intake elbow; the other is between the UIM and the LIM.
I believe that you might need to remove the pressure tank to get to a bolt or two; this has two screws and they are easily spotted on both its sides. You might need to disconnect also one or both the hoses that go into it, to move it out of the way. There are two (I believe) solenoids right behind it and under the manifold in the front. In my car the tape wrapped around the wires that go into them was completely screwed, brittle and not protecting the wires any longer. I decided to re-wrap these, so you might want to at least check them, because they seem to rub against the hose (or check valve, if I'm not mistaking) that sits right under the wires.
While doing this, I attempted not to completely dislodge the UIM. This was a bad idea. First, I accidentally popped the vacuum hoses on the UIM between the UIM itself and the firewall; then, next day, once I found out why I had floating idle, I tried to put the hoses back in, but I lifted the UIM too hard and this time I pinched the coolant hose. Thank God, the paranoid man that I am, I kept checking the coolant and found out I was losing it. At that point I started looking for the leak (hoping it wasn't a seal) and found a laser-thin jet coming from the 90 degree coolant hose that goes into the UIM. Changed that one too, from there on thermosensor, idle and coolant have been perfect.
I hope I didn't miss anything, if so I apologize to the geniuses around here...

***Once again, please make sure that I didn't miss anything******

I didn't have noticeable problems, other than the check engine light coming on at times, but, yes, WOT or close to it and, yes, around 4-5K.

The first time it happened was the day I picked up the car!
One little flash, that's all, then nothing for a while (but I didn't drive the car because it was winter, I picked a clean day to drive it home, I washed it (just in case) and put it away.
Then, a month or so later, as I started using it more, the flashing kept happening, then it started staying on for a minute or so, so I diagnosed it, found what the code meant, did the mess of a repair job I just described to you, and then I was good to go...

Not sure... Is it inside the intake route (elbow, TB, whatever) or is it on the engine?
Make sure you unplug all the vacuum hoses (I think there are quite a few between front and back).
And watch the coolant hoses...
My intake was kind of oily (I guess what you could expect to be considered normal), but didn't have actual oil sitting anywhere...

I guess it's fine (at least with me).
But make sure you don't forget something along the way, I'm telling you, every time I think about this job and the many stupid newbie screwups I did... Let's leave it like that...

If your vac hoses are all OK, I think you might have touched the TPS...
I have had a slight bit of a high idle since my swap, it's just that I have driven the car little and it's not that high, rather somewhat "erratic", I hope I can tackle a TPS reset tomorrow...
My idle sits sometimes at 8/900, and then sometimes it will be 1k or 1.1k, it doesn't bounce, it just stays in a certain spot, then two stop lights later it'll be a bit different...
