I just sold my 91 ZTT and have been offered a 93 RX7 for a really good deal. I have owned an RX7 before but I have never owned an automatic sports car and it kinda makes me not want to buy it. What kind of transmission work am I looking at to get 10 second runs out of it? I appreciate it any help.

 

I dont think Ive ever heard of anyone using the RX7s automatic running that fast.

 

get it for the good price and than swap it to a 5spd

 

I am not opposed to running a different tranny if one is available for street and strip use.

 

Still go for a 5spd swap! Makes it more fun

 

Swapping to a 5spd is way too much work for not enough return.

im building an auto right now. level ten has any thing you need for that tranny. it should hold up to whatever you need. get your stall sent off depending on your mods get it set between 3000 & 4000 rpm. they have up graded clutches and a shift kit for the car.

 

Thomas, if you really want to keep it an auto tranny (i'm assuming for drag use), you can swap the tranny for a Chevy auto tranny. Contact Marcus Williams (whos in Houston) on how to get the adaptor plate. www.turbostreetfighter.com .

Much more performance parts available for the Chevy tranny of course. I'd stay way from Level10. Last I heard, they were being investigated for fraud by NJ.

 

How to build up an automatic-

Get a 5 speed.. About level10 i have heard some bad things about them but dont know if any of it is true so take what you hear with a grain of salt..

 

5 spd swap is fairly simple..... and cheap!

 

Well your going to have a swap another tranny anyway and the road to the 10s isnt easy. The 5 speed is going to show WAY more returns than the automatic. If you thinking of putting a racing auto in then I would suggest you just go all out and get a G-force 4 speed with an H pattern shifter. There just arent many if any FD autos running the numbers... Also whats the point of owning a sports car with a slushbox?
