Need help with alternator reassembly.

Yeah I took apart my alt to touch it up becasue it looked like ****. So I decided to paint it up. Got it apart just fine...only now I dont know how to get that damned rotar back into the hole with two springs. I looked at the shop manuals but that was no help at all.......Please help for those who have done this.

It's been a while so details aren't exact.. but there is a small hole in the case of the alternator that you can stick a paperclip or something through, so that when you compress the brushes (farther than you thing) they'll catch on the paper clip and you can put the rotating assemble in between them.. then just pull the paper clip.

That probably won't make sense until you look at the little hole, where it points and it's orientation to the brush though.

Good luck.

Dave is right, there is a pin hole in the back, I can usually get a small drill bit in there and use some sort of a hook probe to push the brushes down...maybe you can make one out of a coat hanger?!?! push down the rear brush as far as you can, slip the drill bit in the hole, if you let the coat hanger go and the brush pops back up, you didn't get the bit above it...once the rear on is under the bit, do the same thing with the front and push the drill bit in further.

good luck
